Description: Sarban and Lisadi dance together at Turn's End
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 5
The music had started and Sarban was eager to get into the dance. It gave him an
excuse to get closer to Lisadi than normal and he'd take advantage of
it. He led her onto the floor, picking a spot in the crowd, and started to move slowly.
She could feel his muscles beneath this clothes as her fingers rested
on him and her body was but a hands-breadth from his. In a matter of moments she could feel the
music and began to move with him, following his lead. Lisadi had a
sudden urge to lay her head against his shoulder, but she managed to restrain herself
for she didn't think it would be proper for him to be seen in such a manner.
She smiled at him when they turned. She felt almost like she was
floating on air in
his arms. It was a magnificent feeling and so unlike what she'd ever
felt before. He was graceful and sweet, gentle and kind. He was different than Burned
had been and she found she liked that about Sarban. "This is nice," she murmured,
leaning in closer so he could hear her. She got a whiff of his scent, masculine and
strong. She was almost intoxicated by it.
If he wasn't traditional, he wouldn't have bothered with courting her.
In the south, most marriages were either impulsive or done for convenience. Sarban
had done neither, though mainly because he had been at sea for so many turns. "This is
nice and relaxed. The faster dances...I can't really keep up."
Her smile grew broader. "Oh, I understand that completely!" Lisadi
found herself inching just a bit closer to him in their hold, which made her feel a bit
warmer than she had felt before, for many reasons. "I'm enjoying this, and being here with
you," she told him quietly as she leaned in and kissed him gently on the cheek.
"I'm enjoying it too." He wasn't the most talkative man. He was active. Sarban
just liked touching her and having her nearby. There was a change in
his demeanor that was apparent to those he knew when he was around her. "Do you
know this song?"
She loved the feel of his hand as he held her in his arms. It felt
strong, safe, secure. She never wanted the song to end just so she could stay here, in his arms
forever. "It's a lovely song. I hope it doesn't end soon."
"I've heard it before. When we sailed, we'd pull in the coves
sometimes to restock. They played this." He thought about that and his turns before. He loved being a
seacrafter, but it had been lonely.
"I would love to sail with you someday, Sarban. I think it would be a
wonderful experience," Lisadi said, meaning what she said. Not only would it be a joy to fly
over the sea, but she'd be doing it with the man in whose arms she felt like she could belong. It
was a strange feeling. She and Burned had known each other almost all their lives and it had just
_fit_ that they would marry. Yet, here, dancing in the arms of Sarban, Lisadi wondered when it was
that she'd found herself imagining a future with him in it.
"MMm maybe. It's a ways to the coast from here to there and going on
the river isn't the same."
He was already thinking in his head about finding an excuse to go to
the Weyr. He could easily rent a boat somewhere around there.
"Oh, I hadn't thought of that, I guess," she said with a slight frown.
She didn't have many marks of her own, enough to live decently in the Hold, but not enough to
fund a journey to the coast and beyond. It _had_ been a nice thought, though. She could close her eyes
and almost imagine what it would be like to sail on the sea.
"Maybe someday when I can get away for awhile, we could try." The song
was over and Sarban looked to see if she wanted to keep dancing as a faster tune started up.
"I've never seen the sea, myself, though I hear it holds many marvels
all its own." Lisadi's voice was a bit dreamy as she tried to imagine what it must be like to see nothing
by water before her. When the song ended she felt a twang of disappointment for she didn't want to
stop. "Tis a faster tune. I might be up for trying my steps if you are?"
"On one condition-if I step on you, you won't cry." Sarban looked
sheepish but earnest.
She laughed. "Do I look like the kind of lady who would cry just
because someone stepped on her toes? Lead on Sarban. I will suffer through any toe stepping for I'd much
rather be in your arms than anywhere else."
Smiling, he started his version of the faster dance. Sarban wasn't the
best dancer, but he was enjoying it anyway.
Lisadi smiled and joined him as they began to whirl around the dance
floor at a much faster tempo. For now, she was the happiest woman in
the world. Nothing could spoil this moment and the wonderful time
she'd shared with Sarban.
