I Hope Things Go Well

Writers: Chelle, Ames
Date Posted: 21st February 2011

Characters: Janani, Rhosyn
Description: Janani comes to see the River Bluff Weyrwoman for advice.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 10 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: Traelyn, Meledei, Jyramikah

"Angdelouth said she'd informed Orlaith that we'd come for a visit," Janani stated as she
walked into Rhosyn's domain. "Hopefully, you don't mind some company."

Rhosyn looked up from her desk where she had been scribbling furiously. The Record
hides were definitely not her favorite chore. "No...please, anything to keep me from writing
another Record." The Weyrwoman couldn't hide her curiosity. She hadn't gotten to meet
this one before she came. Janani was an unknown commodity and she didn't like that.
"So, welcome. There is food, drink, and a big chair."

"Thank you," Janani poured herself a drink and picked up a few treats from the tray before
she took the seat offered to her. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you Rhosyn. I left here just
before you arrived. Are you settling in well?"

"It's home. I still don't prefer the heat, but I'm used to it." She took a sip of the juice and set
her cup back down. "So, how are you doing?" Her hazel eyes watched Janani. She had been in
the same position herself when she had come to River Bluff though Zharesti had health problems,
not such a breakdown.

"I could tell you I'm great, but I'm sure you know that's a lie. I've stepped into a situation I
never expected, and have found myself getting what I always wanted, only to have it
overshadowed by such a tragic situation." Janani sipped her drink. "River Bluff seems better
since I left, but perhaps that was just because I never quite found my place here."

"What you do now, in these low moments, will determine how they will see you later," Rhosyn
began, thinking. "Figure out the people who know what you should do and get their help. Things
are probably going to be a mess for awhile, but they need to see you there, working for them."
Nibbling on a piece of meat and bread, she considered her own experiences. "There will always
be those that don't agree. I just ignore them." Shrugging, she revealed her own temperament.

"Sounds like a good plan." Janani replied. "You were in my shoes not too long ago. Hard to
imagine that both Weyrs have had such a changeover in a short amount of time. Thankfully, I've
gotten to know a few of the people at Dolphin Cove already, though I have many more to meet
and much to learn about the goings-on there. How do things fare here at River Bluff?"

"Nobody liked Zharesti apparently, so I didn't have much to do about that bit. The Hatching
went well and we've got new weyrlings." Her tone was a bit prideful at the mention of that.
"You, on the other hand, have to fight against a memory that they cared about."

"Yes," Janani replied, "Traelyn was well liked, though quieter in recent times. The Weyr is
mourning her loss even though she did not go /between/. It is almost as though she has, for the
others do not feel that we will see her again anytime soon." Sipping her drink, Janani added,
"I'm only holding this spot temporarily, however, it is nearing time for Angdelouth to rise. I am
just not certain when the other goldriders are expected to rise, since I haven't been around Dolphin
Cove long enough to know for sure."

"Meledei's girl hasn't gone up yet. She's still young, but it's coming to that age. Jyramikah
just had a hatching." Rhosyn remembered the food from that feast, comparing it to the one at
Dragonsfall. "So Meledei's more of a threat than she is."

Janani pondered Rhosyn's words. "Angdelouth is actually due for a rise, but she hasn't shown her
usual interest yet. I can normally tell at least a sevenday before she's going to rise, though I don't
think she's due until later this month, but she has a way of surprising me every now and then."

Not for the first time since arriving, she wondered who Rhosyn would like to see win this particular
race. She'd been kind enough to offer her support through their dragons, which is what led Janani
to seek her out today in the first place, but what did the other Weyrwoman really think? Not that any
of it mattered, of course.

"This is as close as I've ever been," Janani told her. "I knew before I left here that there was no way
Zharesti was going to let me anywhere near her. Even after all the time I put in, she kept me as far
away from her as she could. I wasn't involved in any of the goings-on here. It was almost like I didn't
exist. _That's_ why I jumped at the chance to help at Dolphin Cove and now I find myself in a situation
I never anticipated."

"Zharesti wasn't even here that long before she had to leave. Some women are like that. They don't share
well. Me? If I can delegate, I will." That left her time for baths and meals and other nice things. "It's
not all fun and games though. Weyrleaders change, but we are permanent. So in the end when no one
else claims responsibility, it's left to us usually."

That was good advice and Janani knew it. If Angdelouth rose in time, _and_ she became the Weyrwoman
of Dolphin Cove, in the end everything would come down to her. She would become the staple that the
Weyr needed in order to move onward. In her heart, she already wanted the job. She'd _always_ wanted
the job. It was high time she got what she felt she and Angdelouth deserved.

"Your advice is well received Rhosyn. I hope that in the future, you and I can build a shared friendship and
understanding together." Janani knew that some Weyrwomen didn't want or like others to be anywhere
near them, but Rhosyn seemed different and honestly, Janani hoped she was, for she could use a friend in
this new situation.

Not wanting to commit herself just yet to a friendship with a woman she hardly knew, Rhosyn did realize
she wanted to keep an eye on Janani. What better way to do that? "You know where to find me. I hope things
go well."

"As do I," Janani replied. "Thanks again Rhosyn. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of each other in the future."
