"We don't even have to go as far as her, we've got Cardella! You know her, right?" G'wen grinned as he thought about his friend's lovely pastries.
"She Impressed green, right?" J'nor asked. "I feel terrible, I spent so much of my candidate time trying to bed the crafter girls here that I really didn't create any good friendships with my fellow candidates."
"Trying to convince yourself you were going to get the bronze?" G'wen teased. "Don't worry, it happens all the time. Did you hear that Nadden got a green?" He had seen his old enemy a few times with his lovely little green, looking confused and miserable.
J'nor nodded, "Of course I was. I guess I hoped that if I compensated for my attractions by sleeping with girls that the dragons would think differently," he explained. "And I didn't talk with Nadden much, but I saw him bullying you all the time. I'm sorry I didn't do more, I guess I was too embarrassed about my own problems to care about anyone else's. It's sad that he was being rude to other people just because he was afraid of who he was."
Sensing his rider's change in mood, Zoranaith nuzzled J'nor lovingly. }:You have me now, what could possibly go wrong?:{ He asked. J'nor rubbed Zoranaith's head knobs affectionately.
G'wen gave them a quiet moment whilst he tossed food in Neath's opened mouth. Idly he noted she wasn't trying to still swallow her food whole. Maybe she was open to reason after all.
"So, was it what you expected?" J'nor asked, changing the subject to something a bit more pleasant. "Impression, that is." He wasn't certain if it was "easier" for Weyrbred candidates to handle because they'd been around dragons all their lives, or if it was a strange, new experience for them as well.
G'wen gave him a shy smile and glanced down at Neath, his face full of love for her. "I knew what to expect...but this is more, much more. I can't believe how I went through life without her in it, you know? It's like I wasn't really alive yet." For all her bossiness and airs, she was the most wonderful creature on Pern. At that moment, the object of all his affections sat back and gave a huge belch.
J'nor laughed heartily. "They're such characters aren't they? I guess I have always considered them more as animals than people. But really, they have such fascinating personalities. Right now they are like little two turn olds. I assume that just like people they will change and mature and adapt as they grow up. And some people's dragons are just like them, where others are complete opposites personality wise. It's really interesting."
"Hmm...I've seen many two turn olds with more manners than these beasties." Neath turned to glare at her lifemate at those words. **Serves you right, deary**
}:I could always knock you out of the bed again tonight and take it for my own:{
Seeing she was done eating, G'wen muttered, "wonder what E'naer has in store for us today?"
"At least we haven't started throwing firestone sacks around regularly yet," J'nor commented. He'd spoken to one of the Senior Weyrlings about their training, and it seemed like an awful lot of work. "I'm really excited for us to start the ground training drills though, they sound really interesting.
}:Why is throwing firestone hard? You like playing catch?:{ Zoranaith asked.
**Firestone is heavy, love,** J'nor responded. It was odd having someone's constant commentary to all his conversations.
"I'm excited to learn a bit about dragon healing. I was too rubbish to get to learn a craft, so this'll be the next best thing."
"Dragon healing does sound really interesting," J'nor agreed. "I was a tailor by trade, so while it was fun, it wasn't really terribly interesting. There's only so much you can learn about which colors match with, and different stitches. The actually classes were so boring I skipped them half of the time."
"You sound like me and the candidate classes. I'm kind of surprised they let me Stand, being that I think I missed over half the classes." G'wen gave Neath an affectionate pat, shuddering at the thought of not Standing.
}:I would have found you, even if you hadn't been standing close by:{
"I missed a lot of them as well, but I think that they only really care that you're not going to go out on the Sands and do something silly." He had heard the horror tales in their classes of Candidates who'd been gored because of their inability to get out of the way. J'nor cut one last piece of meat, and tossed it at Zoranaith, who was becoming to get drowsy from his full stomach. "I think he's _finally_ full!"
"Quick! Let's get him--and her--to the pools for a bath and an oil before he really falls asleep on you!" G'wen looked a bit startled at the big blue. He was much bigger than his mate S'vin's tiny blue, who could be--and was often--carried. Neath was watching the blue with some interrest.
