Description: D'ale brings Dalora to meet her new foster mother
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 14 of Turn 5
Her arms were around his neck and eyes as big a saucers. She watched
everyone around her very seriously as she clutched her little brown
dragon toy under her arm. "Rath, Rath" she'd run around the room
looking for him this morning calling like he was going to answer her.
Finally they'd found him in her bed and all was right with the world.
D'ale chatted to her about her new foster mother and how they were
going to have such fun. There would be other children to play with and
da would come to play. All the changes over the last months had made
her a trifle clingy but that was fine with him. He wanted her with him
as much as possible when he was off duty.
Arriving at the appropriate door he raised a hand to knock.
G'waren opened the door. When his wingmate had said he was looking
for a foster mother for his little one, the bluerider had directed him
to G'wen's who was currently down to only two children. "D'ale, come on
in."
He smiled at the bluerider "This is Dalora." he said as he walked
through the door.
"Hello Dalora." He smiled tenderly at the small child, remembering
G'wen at that age. "This here is Halgalla."
A small, plump woman stood up to greet the new vistors, beaming with
joy over the thought of a new foster child. Now that little
Galwen--no, G'wen, she corrected herself--had impressed she had only
the two older girls left. Who was she going to fuss over now? She
loved weyrbrats, they were so much more curious and funnier than Hold
children.
D'ale came further into the room smiling and talking to the little
girl who didn't seem to want to let go. "Hello Halgalla," he smiled.
She looked a bit older than the young foster mothers he'd already met
but maybe that would be a good thing. He found a chair and sitting
down set Dalora on her feet.
"Hullo brownrider! Hello little one," she smiled at the little girl,
sitting back and letting her make the first moves.
At first she leaned against D'ale's knee but soon curiosity overcame
her and she began to explore the room. D'ale's eyes followed her just
to make sure she didn't get into anything she shouldn't. He looked at
the others in the room not really wanting to share all his personal
business with them but for Dalora's sake.
"She's had a bit of a rough time of it for the last few months." he
said. "I just want her to have some stability but I can't be there all
the time." They were well aware of the demands on a dragorider. Still
though it was expected, it wasn't easy.
G'waren nodded, seeing the guarded look on his fellow wingrider's
face. Nodding towards Halgalla, he said, "well you can't do any better
than Halgalla here. She'll smother your little girl with love."
"Oh now, G'waran!" The plump woman blushed and smiled. "It's true
I've got no little ones to care for now, with my boy Galwen gone with
the dragons now. I've only the two older girls, so I'd so love another bright face to wake up to."
D'ale looked at the tiny girl then smiled at the older woman. "I'd
still like to keep her overnight when I can." he said. "Think we can
work that out?"
"You do what you need and want to do, you're the father. I'm here for
you, and for her." She smiled at the handsome man.
He smiled right back. Halgalla came with high marks from G'waren and
Dalora had finally decided to investigate the friendly woman. The
little girl lifted her little stuffed brown dragon from under her arm
and showed it to Halgalla. "He's 'rath" said D'ale "She can't quite
say Torerath's whole name yet."
"Ah," Halgalla mummered, chuckling. "I think if you look over there in the wardrobe you'll find a little bronze stuffed dragon. He can be a
friend for Rath." The little dragon had been Galwen's when he was
little but he had never shown any interrest in dragons with bronze
hides, even as a small child. The stuffed animal was almost like new.
Dalora followed the woman with her eyes and when the little bronze toy
was revealed squealed with delight and went to her to retrieve it.
D'ale laughed as the little girl became more comfortable. He looked up
at G'waren and mouthed. 'Thank you'. His attention returned to the
little girl as she was obviously at ease enough with the older woman
to allow herself to be placed in a plump lap.
G'waren gave him a friendly wink. He knew how stressful the care of
children could be. Speaking up, he asked, "so how's your boy?"
"He's doing well. Obsessed with his lifemate of course, as I'm sure
yours is. Beautiful green though I hear she may be a handful."
"Yes, she could be the making of my boy," he teased. He was relieved
by her personlity. She didn't seem to be the sort of green that was
going to be overtly flirty. Out loud he mused, "I'm glad she's bossy
rather than one of these overly passive greens. If G'wen had gotten a
shy green we'd never see the two of them again!"
"Things have a way of working out once you find your lifemate." he
smiled. He knew it had been that way for him. He knew K'ale wasn't as
shy as he'd been back then but Torerath had helped him mature. "Well
right now if he isn't exhausted all the time, he isn't doing it
right!" he grinned.
"Oh, every time I see him he's just about sleepwalking!" G'waren
grinned, thinking about his small son and his huge green before
glancing over at Halgalla. The little girl looked well pleased. He
glanced back at D'ale before saying, "well, care for a pint in the
dinning room? We can let these two settle down."
D'ale followed G'waren's eyes to where Dalora was playing with
Halgalla contentedly. "Well, that settles that." he said with a nod.
Turning back to the blue rider he added "Love one." and stood to sneak
out of the room. If Dalora saw she didn't protest as he left the room.
