Tavia

Tavia

Meledei sat on a rock and watched Elleth play with that ball of hers.
She'd had that thing since before she could fly and the dragon still
loved it. She pushed into and through the water, snorted at it to
make it go skimming across the surface, then would hit it back toward
the short and let it roll through the sand. She'd kick it around
there for a little while, then start all over again. Back and forth
she went.

Meledei's mood had improved, but only slightly. She was still angry.
But now? Now the hurt began to settle in. The doubts too crept
through. Why wasn't she good enough? She loved him! Yes, despite
everything, Meledei still loved him. That's what made it hurt so
badly. If he had just talked to her before hand...but no, he had to
go behind her back, sneak around and act like a child. He didn't grow
up. Wouldn't grow up. He didn't trust her, that was obvious. And
now? Now, he had lost her trust. And without trust? Well, there was
no point in going on with it anymore. Meledei reached up and wiped a
tear that escaped to trickle down her eye. It stunk. It absolutely
stunk.

}:Elleth's is very sad.:{ **Oh, that's too bad, let's see if I can
help. Why don't you see if Elleth wants you to help her play.** Tavia
almost heard the snort in her lifemates voice. }:It's a ball!:{
**Yes, well she seems to be having fun with it miss lazybones. Try it
you might like it. You know how much I enjoy Waterball.**

They swooped in for a landing in the cove and Tavia walked toward the
queen rider. She couldn't miss the downcast features. "Are you ok
Mel?" she asked concerned for her friend.

Meledei pasted a smile upon her face, but it couldn't hide her
emotions. Those played over her expression whether she liked it or
not. "Don't mind me, just being over emotional and everything. How
are you?"

"I'm fine!" she said. Her visits with a certain bronze rider were
very stimulating and uncomplicated. She was quite happy with the way
they were going and from what she could tell, so was he. She smiled
sceptically at the younger woman and shook her head. Elleth already
told on you." she said "Anything I can do to help?"

"No, not really." Meledei shook her head, her expression darkening.
She heaved a sigh. "Unless you want to get a stick and beat a certain
bluerider with it."

Her eyes popped open and a grin spread across her face... "Ooooh, I'm
in! Can I used a really big stick??"

"The biggest stick you can find!" Meledei nodded, her expression
darkening. "He deserves every lick he gets."

She smiled at the comeback though she could see Meledei was nothing if
not serious. "Well sounds like he did something bad... want to tell me
what happened?"

Meledei gave Tavia a sidelong glance. Should she? Shouldn't she?
She sighed and stared at her lifemate playing in the water with
Tavia's. She'd hesitated in talking about it with some. Then slowly
she'd started opening up. Well, one other person. It had helped
but..."F'gol and I broke up." There. It was out.

Tavia nodded. "That happens," she said. Of course Meledei was young
with romantic notions. Tavia thought perhaps she wasn't the best
counselor when it came to romance. She wasn't into that kind of
relationship. "Your decision or his?"

More shadows creept over Meledei's face. "Mine." She stated flatly.
"Because he had the gall to go behind my back and sleep with some
guy."

"You had an agreement and he went behind your back? I don't blame you
for tossing him on his ear!" Tavia herself was always up front in her
relationships and didn't understand those who felt they had to sneak
and lie about things.

"Yeah well...I thought we had something special. I thought..."
Meledei's eyes stung with tears and she quickly reached up to rub at
them. "I had even asked him to Weyrmate with me....so much for that.
I guess it's a good thing we never did."

She snorted softly, "Then you're well rid of him. If he can't
appreciate what you offered then he's a fool." Tavia's own philosophy
wasn't quite so sentimental but she wasn't one so spread that to a
gold rider. She thought, felt, even acted like a green rider. Sawauth
was the love of her life and she was fine with that.

"Look," she said "you have plenty of time to find that one that will
make you happy. You have turns ahead of you to do it. You should just
put him behind you and chalk it up to experience." she shook her head
wondering at what the man had been thinking. "Faranth, his head is
full of crackdust!"

Meledei managed a small smile. "You're kind to say so. Just that
last comment makes me feel better." She sighed and lay fully upon her
back, staring at the sky. "It's still hard. It's just...I had so
much invested in him. He was my first...I was his and..." She shook
her head. "I guess nothing lasts forever."

Tavia's heart reached out to the young woman. "As wonderful as it
seems to think our happiness could depend upon one person, it is just
not so...not for dragonriders in any case. You have so much time
invested only because it is the _only_ time you have invested." she
reached out "Trust me, you _will_ find happiness with another, or in
another way." Her own way of dealing with that pain was never to
attach strings either to herself or anyone else. "Your only constant
is Elleth."

"You're right." Meledei straightened up and nodded. "I at least have
Elleth. And even if I never find another person to share my life
with, I at least have her. I'll always have her." Barring...well,
no, best not to think too hard about that. "It's just...hard."

"Yes," she said and then she had an idea. "You know? They say the best
revenge is happiness. He needs to see you happy and laughing." Tavia
got an evil twinkle in her eye. "I think I can gather up some friends
for a little 'fun', if you know what I mean."

"I'm not really into that kind of fun." Meledei admitted with a
shrug. "But thanks for the thought. I'll...get over it soon enough,
I'm sure." She glances at the water. "Care to go for a swim?"

"I thought you'd never ask!" she grinned then jumped up and started
running toward the water.

Meledei didn't follow, not right away. Her enthusiasm was curbed by
her stormy thoughts and she took a moment to strip of her clothing
before finally making her way down to the water to join the greenrider
and the dragons.
