Sometimes They Leave Us

Writers: Chelle, Paula
Date Posted: 29th November 2010

Characters: Rhosyn, Im're
Description: Rhosyn catches a ride from Im're while he's on elevator duty.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 2 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: Solieira, R'syl

She needed to go see about an older bluerider. It was probably just days
before the dragons would keen for him and his.
Sighing since it wasn't her favorite duty, Rhosyn headed to see which
weyrling was on duty. Orlaith was going to drop any
day and she wasn't going up for anything. Much to her chagrin, it was the
same bluerider who had gotten her lost when she
had first come to the Weyr. "Not you," she groaned.

Im're gave her a lopsided smile. "Weyrwoman, ma'am," he said, hoping he
didn't look too embarrassed. He hadn't forgotten
the humiliation of getting lost either.

"Okay look..I need to get to M'rit's weyr. Can you do that?" She gave him a
skeptical look, indicating she doubted that he could.

"Yes ma'am, I can," Im're said.

"Allright then." Moving closer to the blue, she looked up at him. "Hello
there."

The blue turned his facets towards the Weyrwoman. "He says Hi," Im're
informed with a dutiful tone.

"If it's all right, go ahead and mount Im're. I need to be getting up
there." She'd sit behind him behind the other neckridge in
the passenger's spot.

"Umh, do you need help getting up on Gormth?" Im're asked bit hesitantly and
vaulted to his blue's back. He was showing off a bit.
}: Her dragon is much bigger than me .{ Gormth pointed out.

"I'm fine, thank you." Once he was in place, she made her way easily up into
the passenger space. Despite being a small woman,
she was agile. She began to strap herself in, ever mindful of safety.

Im're waited until the Weyrwoman was settled down before giving Gormth the
permission to go. The blue took to the air smoothly.

It was different on a much smaller dragon, but Rhosyn enjoyed flying
nonetheless. Without Orlaith's solid bulk under her, she felt
it was a more risky venture, though she trusted Gormth to get her there
safely. He was faster, certainly.

Gormth landed on the ledge and greeted the old blue whose home he was
visiting. The other blue made some room for them. "We're
here," Im're declared.

"Thank you, it'll just be a little bit if you'll wait." She slid down after
unbuckling and headed inside.

"Sure," Im're replied but she was already gone inside.

It took Rhosyn some time to visit and give comfort to the older rider. Her
suspicions were confirmed and she noted the nurse that
was looking after him. Leaving behind some good klah bark for him, she took
M'taro's last wishes with her to give to Solieira. Approaching
Gormth again looking somber, Rhosyn mounted slowly.

"How did it go?" Im're asked curiously. She didn't look very cheery, so
maybe the old coot was dying.

"Let's just say it won't be long now. He's done his service to the Weyr,
though, and I hope that we get ten more just like him."
Her hands went to Gormth's back, feeling the warmth of the blue to steady
her thoughts. Someday, that would be her.
}:We will make the trip together, but it is a long time from now:{
**I know. I am not afraid. I just hope that it will be when I am ready**
}:Being ready doesn't matter. It just is.:{
Rhosyn left it, since Orlaith couldn't understand how she felt. Death was
different for her.

"I'm sorry to hear it," Im're said with sympathy.

"Aye." She was quiet as she waited for the dragon to take off from the
ledge. Rhosyn closed her eyes, seeing Orlaith in
her mind. It made her feel alive, knowing there were eggs in her dragon's
belly.

Im're couldn't figure out anything to say so he was silent too. Gormth
landed in front of the Hatching cavern.

"Thanks for the ride. I'll be sure to tell R'syl that you were helpful." She
made her way down and gave Gormth a
good scratch before Rhosyn slowly walked towards the Grounds, eager to check
on her dragon who wasn't moving
much these days. As the eggs got harder and ready to lay inside her, they
got heavier.

"It was a pleasure," Im're replied, happy that this time he had not
blundered it.
