She'd been dreaming of something sweet and lovely when the scream tore her awake. Startled, Lisadi's heart beating rapidly, she tried to place where she was and what had awoken her. Then, she heard the calls and whimpers.

Pushing back her covers and grabbing her robe, she quickly raced to Trewlin's room without even a care for the coldness of the floor on her bare feet.

The moment the glow she carried fell on his sleeping form, she knew he was in the throes of one of his nightmares again. His small frame was covered in a fine sheen of sweat even as his thrashed about on his bed.

"Shhh, it's okay, Trewlin," she murmured quietly as she approached the sleeping boys bed. He didn't awaken immediately, but instead continued to thrash about, whimpering in his sleep. Lisadi set the glow basket down on the small table beside his bed and settled carefully on the end of it. She reached her hands out to quell his restlessness, only to be met by a punch in the arm. It stung, and she grimaced, but she ignored it. It was not his fault. Trewlin had been assaulted by these dreams more often since his little runaway adventure last month.

"It's going to be alright, Trewlin. You're having a bad dream," Lisadi gently told the boy, giving him a gentle nudge to wake him.

Trewlin gasped and sat bolt upright in his bed. His eyes were wild. His head seemed to swing around the room as if taking in something only he could see. Suddenly he saw Lisadi and his face crumbled. Tears began to stream down his face as his body shook with sobs.

Reaching for him, she wrapped him in her arms and cradled him. Rocking him back and forth and making soothing sounds to quiet the tremors and sobs that had overtaken the young boy.

Normally, he drifted back to sleep after these nightmares, hardly remembering them in the morning, but tonight seemed different. Trewlin sniffled and clung to Lisadi.

"I saw mum and da," he mumbled so softly she almost didn't hear him. His body trembled as he said those words and he clung to her tighter. Lisadi pulled back just enough to look down into his face.

"If you want to talk about it, I'm here," she told him quietly, knowing he would share with her when and if he was ever ready. Trewlin looked up at her, his eyes still brimming with unshed tears, his lower lip quivering.

"I saw the…f….f…fire," he gasped out, even as another sob shook him. "Mum and da. They left me. I'm all alone." he whispered and whimpered.

"Shhh, it's alright, Trewlin. I'm here with you now. I won't go anywhere." She hugged him tightly to her, her own heart breaking as she was witness to his struggle and torment. She wished she could take away this hurt from him, but she knew she couldn't. One day, maybe, they could talk about his mum and da, but right now whenever they came up, he would either get angry or tearful. Lisadi understood. Losing someone close to you was the hardest thing one had to endure. Her own heart still ached for the man she had loved and lost. Nothing would or could bring their loved ones back, but they would find a way to live that would make them proud. She sat there for quite a while, soothing the distraught child, until she finally felt and heard his breathing return to that of a sleeping state.

Gently laying him back onto the bed, she tucked the covers in around him. "Sleep well, Trewlin. Our hearts will heal, but they will never forget." Her own eyes brimmed with tears as she thought of Burned. Biting them back, she turned and quietly closed his door, hoping he would not wake again this night.
