Too Effective

Writers: Ames, Paula
Date Posted: 22nd October 2010

Characters: Eilomar, Maemira
Description: Eilomar comes to Maemira for help in planning his upcoming wedding to Merlish and she's more he can handle.
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 11, day 8 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: Merlish

Sitting in her office, Maemira looked over the reports from the past week.
Nothing unusual. Putting down the scroll, she glanced around the small
room.
Nothing fancy, but just enough for her to do her job. She actually longed
for the time when she'd be able to get her hands on a kitchen of her own
again. In the meantime, she'd enjoy the freedom that not overseeing the
kitchen allowed her. Rising, she decided to see what else was happening
around her.

"Headwoman?" Eilomar asked, knocking her door.

"Yes," Maemira looked up, "Ah, do come in. What can I do for you, Master
Eilomar?" She motioned for him to enter.

"It's about my upcoming wedding," Eilomar replied.

"Ah, yes, I've heard about that, Master. I would be happy to assist with
whatever you need," Maemira told the harper. She had not yet met Merlish,
but it was clear from having seen Eilomar that the man was quite taken
with
the young woman. Planning a wedding was big business, and could be a grand
event. Unless of course the couple preferred a smaller, more quaint
ceremony.

Eilomar looked a list in his hand, "Let's see, the feast-quarters, dinner
and the family cot," he murmured.

Maemira bit back a smile as his almost absent-minded talk. "What have you
already set in place, Master Eilomar? Is the ceremony here or at your
bride's residence? How many guests are you expecting?" Maemira's mind was
already churning. Her tasks would hinge on whether they had chosen the
Harper Hall as their location or somewhere else. There would be _much_
more
to do if the wedding was to take place at the Hall itself, but she would
assist as much as possible even if it was planned for another location.

"Yes, it will be held here a the Hall. Most of the guests are harpers. Exact
number isn't certain yet, since we haven't sent the invitiations and we
don't know how many will be able to attend," Eilomar said and scratched
his
head, being at loss with all the arrangements. His first marriage had been
arranged mostly by Ailewyn's parents, his only task had been invite his
relatives and show up in time.

"Well, give me a list of names and I'll happily help you plan. Unless, of
course, your new bridge wishes to make the plans herself?" Maemira's mind
was already whirling. Lavish dinner with special sweets and drinks. Music
would be easy considering where they were. Decorations. Greetings.
Sparkling
dishes. Ah, yes, this would be an occasion where she could put her talents
to good use.

"Have you chosen a date yet? What kinds of sweets and treats would you like
to have? I'll make sure the kitchens whip up some wonderful fare for you and
your bride and all your guests." She'd need some time to gather things up,
but she could also whip together a fairly well orchestrated meal in a
matter
of days if need be.

"We'll need to see about getting some good bakery treats and some wines for
the feast. Music can be provided by your fellow Harpers. Will you dance with
your bride?" Maemira paused and with a bit of wink and a smile she added,
"I'm an excellent dance teacher if you need any assistance."

"Perhaps I should meet with you and your bride together, or see what her
thoughts on the ceremony and celebration are. I can have the hall
decorated
for this festive occasion, but would not wish to do so if she has ideas of
her own in mind. What do you think would work best Master Eilomar?"

She was running off and Eilomar had fallen from the wagon. He was just
opening and closing his mouth, not able get a word between. "Umh, the date
is Turn's beginning. I think it's best if Merlish is involved," he finally
said. He was already over his head with this. You wouldn't thing that
arranging the wedding was this complicated.

"Perhaps we should invite Merlish to join us when she's free and we could
meet them to discuss the plans for the ceremony and feast. Would you let
her know that I would like to work with her to help you both plan this wedding.
It will take all of us. In the meantime, would you like me to help you
compile a list of those you wish to invite or perhaps get the invitations
delivered for you when they are ready?" Maemira hoped she could help take
some of the stress away from Eilomar and Merlish during this time. It
actually was a thrill to have such a big event to look forward to and have
a hand in planning.

"I'll ask her," Eilomar replied. He was starting to have a headache. Too
much thinking. Well, at least the headwoman seemed effective. Too
effective. He felt like he had been run over by a dragon, mentally speaking.
