Description: M'shan is caught stealing a pastry by Galwen
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 11, day 14 of Turn 5
M'shan stole the pastry when he walked past the tray, not even looking at it's direction, and giving the impression of total innocense and belonging
where he was. It was a skill he had perfected as a weyrbrat.
"Hey! I saw that!" Galwen said crossly to the taller boy. Really, Lien
would kill him if he allowed her hard work to be stolen away before
they could even make it until breakfast.
"Saw what?" M'shan looked innocent and hid his hand into the folds of his
tunic. The boy looked vaquedly familiar. Unfortunately, lot of people
in Dragonsfall Weyr looked vaquedly familiar.
"That pasty in your hand, the one you're trying so innocently to hide." Galwen held out his own to take it back.
"I already touched it, it's contaminated," M'shan was not going to give up his prize.
Galwen sighed mightily and turned away. He was too tired to start an
agruement and too tired from being bullied by some of the other
Candidates. Let that silly boy have his pastry. He looked down at the
remaining pasties and sighed again, trying to rearrange them so
hopefully Lien wouldn't know one was missing. He was worn down and it
showed in the dark circles under his eyes and in his thinner than normal
frame.
"Aww, shells," M'shan couldn't bear that beaten look. The
boy looked like he had been trampled over too many times. And here he
was, another bullying dragonrider. "I'm sorry," he said and put the
pastry back. Few flakes drifted to the floor and he winced.
"It's okay, keep it," Galwen muttered. "Lien'll hopefully not know it's
missing." He indicated towards a woman over by the hearths who looked
like she might have been more comfortable as a Beastcrafter than a cook.
"Yikes! She's still the terror of the kitchen?" M'shan cringed. Now, how many times he had run afoul of her as a brat?
Galwen had to laugh a bit at the look on the Weyrling's face. "Shards yes.
She's getting worst these days. I think she may have eaten a Weyrbrat
or two lately."
"She used to chase me around, caught few times too," M'shan said.
Galwen shook his head. "I have to stay on her good side. If she ever had to chase me for anything all that'd be left would be a bit of hair and some clothing. She even went after some drunk bronzerider the other day."
"Sounds like she hasn't changed a bit," M'shan said.
"So did you used to work here a lot then?"
"Some, I also spent half of my childhood in Dolphin Cove Weyr," M'shan rolled his eyes.
"Ah, what was that like?" Galwen had always wanted to see the ocean.
"Quite nice. Warm. I have lot of relatives there, so we were one big family," M'shan replied. He did miss those times.
Galwen's face blanched. Grabbing M'shan's arm, he said, "I think you've outworn your welcome. Don't look, just follow me."
"What?" M'shan was startled and more than little bit confused. He did follow the younger boy.
"It's Lien, she's coming our way," he said, looking over his shoulder. "I
think she remembers you...you must have done a lot!" They walked out
into the cool morning air.
"I blame it on bad family influence," M'shan said with a guilty glance backwards.
"Oh dear," Galwen said, his brown eyes laughing. Really, this fellow wasn't as bad as he had first thought. With his other hand, he reveiled the pasty he had re-taken for M'shan. "Here you go."
"Thank's...What is you name by the way?" M'shan thanked and asked. "Are you someones kid brother or something? You look sort of familiar."
"It's Galwen, I'm G'waren's son, you might know him. Or his obnoxious
Weyrmate, T'bel." He rolled his eyes and glanced over to where a wing
was talking in a cluster.
"I think my half-brother knows T'bel, he is bluerider, my brother that is," M'shan pondered.
"I think most of the blue riders on Pern 'know' T'bel. At least it's felt
that way...at the rate he's been tossing them my direction. So who's
your brother?"
"Sh'lua," M'shan replied.
Galwen blushed and laughed a bit. "Erm...yes, that one. I may have tried to throw myself at him a few weeks ago. Or at least thought about it. No
help from T'bel there." He gave M'shan an apologetic look.
"Don't worry, you and almost every one else in this weyr. I'm surprised he
doesn't have people lined up outside his weyr door," M'shan said
jovially and patted his shoulder. "I better get going. I have classes. Thank's for the rescue, Galwen."
