Description: Zandan returns with the boy after the search.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 10, day 24 of Turn 5
Zandan was carrying a wet, mud-dripping boy on his arms. He had managed get the boy
calmed down. Surprisingly, the big guard was very good with children. That's what you get
playing uncle to Corowal's five. He knocked Lisadi's door.
Lisadi, who'd been anxiously wringing her hands in her lap as she waited for news, jumped
at the sound of the knock. Hurrying over to the door, she flung it open and stated before she
even saw who was there, "Did you find him?"
Sarban was in the Hold, but the minute someone came to him to tell him Zandan had found
the boy, he headed to the fostermother's quarters to confirm the report.
"Yes, here you are," Zandan replied and offered the boy. "Wet, muddy, and in need of a warm bath
and warm milk with bread slices spread with jam." The boy tugged his sleeve and whispered
something. "Oh, yeah, it'd better be redfruit jam."
Lisadi sucked in a breath at the sight of Trewlin in Zandan's arms. She couldn't even speak. That
was when she caught sight of movement behind Zandan. Her eyes met Sarban's for a moment.
The turmoil of emotion within her was clearly evident through those eyes.
"Thank you," she managed to say, her voice hoarse with the tears that threatened to spill over.
"Please, come in, all of you." Then looking at the boy in Zandan's arms, Lisadi spoke gently, "Trewlin,
are you okay?" She watched him glance her way, give a curt nod, and then hold tighter to the
guard in whose arms he now felt safe.
"So..where was he Zandan?" That issue had to be addressed since if there was someplace on Hold
property that was unsafe, Sarban had to fix it immediately.
"Please, both of you come in." Lisadi reached up and brushed Trewlin's hair from his eyes. Finally,
the young boy turned to her and with a quivering lower lip, reached for her. She took him into her
arms, not caring a smidgen about the mud that was now dripping onto her as well.
"Are you mad?" Trewlin whispered as Lisadi carried him into their rooms, looking back over her
shoulder to the two men.
"Oh, Trewlin. I was worried and scared, yes. I'm not angry with you, but I _never_ want you to disappear
like that again."
"He was in the woods. He started running, got scared by the canine we used, and fell into a ditch.
It's an old irrigation canal," Zandan replied to Sarban's question.
"Ah well not that deep then. Don't have to plug it up." Sarban was glad that everything had turned out
allright. Children could be a nuisance at times though when they did foolish things.
"No. It was more mud than water," Zandan replied.
Lisadi listened to the talk and felt a sense of relief wash over her. He hadn't fallen far and it seemed
perhaps he'd just gotten more frightened by the situation than truly hurt.
"Thank you both for your help. I'm _sure_ Trewlin will never do anything like this again, will you, Trewlin?"
Lisadi nudged the dirty child who now standing beside her.
"No, ma'am. I'm sorry I caused so much trouble," Trewlin mumbled pushing his mud-caked foot around
on the clean floor. He chanced a glance up at the two men to see how angry they were. He blinked when
he saw they didn't look angry at all. In fact, no-one did. Why weren't they all angry with him? He didn't
understand, but felt relieved to think he might not be in as much trouble as he'd expected.
Sarban then took the opportunity to be the scary male the situation warranted. Walking forward, he bent
down to see in Trewlin's eyes. "We're very glad you weren't hurt. There are felines, whers, and Faranth-knows-what-else
out there. Next time, if you'd like to take a walk in the woods or wherever, let someone know where you're
going. Understood?"
Trewlin looked up at the man with wide eyes. He gulped and nodded his head in agreement. "I didn't mean
to cause so much trouble," he muttered, digging his mud-caked shoe further into the ground. "I just wanted
to be alone for a little while," he mumbled. "I won't do it again." Trewlin meant what he'd said. After he'd gotten
stuck, he'd started to panic. He'd even bawled like a baby at one point, not that he'd admit that to anyone. He
might not always like Lisadi's rules, but when he'd been stuck out there, thinking he might die all alone, he
actually wished to see her or anyone again.
Lisadi had watched the exchange. "Unless you two need to speak more with Trewlin here, I think perhaps a
good bath and then bed is in order." The firm look she gave him told him that while she was glad he was safe,
she was _not_ happy with all the trouble he'd caused. They would discuss that more later. "Sarban, Zandan,
thank you again for all your help."
"That's what we're here for. You have a good night and get some rest." Sarban led Zandan out, thinking he needed
some sleep himself.
