Touring the Weyr

Writers: April, Chelle
Date Posted: 30th August 2010

Characters: Shandara, Rhosyn
Description: Shandara leads Rhosyn around the Weyr.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 7 of Turn 5

Sitting in her new office, Rhosyn looked around. She would have to see the Headwoman to change out a few things. Drinking some of the juice that had been brought, she wondered when the candidate would arrive. She had requested someone to show her around the Weyr. U'das' warning about getting lost had been stuck in her head.

Shandara knocked softly. For perhaps the tenth time she straightened her skirt. It wasn't often you were sent to the Weyrwoman's office. She waited
politely for a sound from the other side of the door.

"Come in," Rhosyn straightened up, finishing up her juice.

Shandara opened the door quietly and stepped in. "You needed someone to show you about Weyrwoman Rhosyn?" She had been told what would be expected. She hadn't expected to be the one sent but when no one volunteered she decided she would. Couldn't hurt right? Get on the Weyrwoman's good side. That was always a good thing.

"Aye.." She stood and brushed off her trousers. Moving away from her chair,
she gestured for the candidate to go first. "And you are?"

"Shandara Weyrwoman. But, most people call me Shan." She gave the Weyrwoman
a slight smile. "Where would you like to start?"

Rhosyn had made a list of the important places she needed to locate. Some of them should be easy to get to via the heavy traffic tunnels, but she wanted to be sure. "Well, there's the Dining Cavern. That's important."

"Okay, that should be rather easy to find." She gave her a smile. "This way ma'am." She lead the way to the dining cavern. "This is the easiest way from your office. Also, there are less Weyrfolk that come this way so this hall is a bit quicker."

She nodded, carefully watching which way they were going. "When is it most
crowded?"

"During meal times. There are a lot of comings and goings then." She fished in her pocket for a moment. She pulled out a carefully drawn map. "Here. I used this a lot when I first came. I made a few notations on what I noticed and such. I don't need it as much now so you can have it Ma'am."

Rhosyn took it and pocketed the map for later perusal. "How long have you been here?"

"About a turn or so," she said with a smile. "Shall I show you to the infirmary? I know it is also rather important to know where it is. Or do you want to see the hatching grounds?"

"Whichever is closer." Rhosyn knew she would spend time in the infirmary. Dragonhealing wasn't one of her specialties but she knew enough to help if she needed to. The Hatching Grounds would be a place that would be her responsibility to maintain.

"That would be the hatching grounds." She smiled. "I love sitting in there when the eggs are on the sands. You know during the visits the candidates are allowed to have, as part of class."

"Those visits are quite important." Nodding in agreement, Rhosyn found it hard to remember those days, when she had been so young. "I trust you have your robe ready?"

"Oh, yes. I'm hoping this next clutch will be my lucky one." She smiled as they stepped into the large Hatching cavern.

As they walked inside, Rhosyn automatically began to compare it to the one at Vista Point Weyr. She could think of a few changes that might be made in the future. Still, it was comfortable and well kept. "Where's the weyr close by?"

"Yes Ma'am. Right this way." She lead the way. She smiled; she was doing well. The new Weyrwoman seemed nice.

Following, she entered the space and glanced around, knowing she'd spend time here in the coming turns. It should be a comfortable place, though most dragonrider weyrs were sparse accommodations. She took her time, but when she was done, she approached the candidate again. "All right, time to see where the injured end up."

Shan nodded as she lead the way. She smiled as they walked in and made sure to wave at a few of those she had befriended as a candidate. "This is the infirmary Ma'am. Is there anywhere else you would like to go?"

"Let me say hello to the Weyrhealer, then we'll move on." Rhosyn stepped inside, hoping to be directed, leaving Shandara there for the moment. It took a little bit for her to finish her conversation and a short tour of the facilities, before she came back. "I think we're good for one day. Maybe tomorrow we can go to see the dragonhealers.."
