G'nir

G'nir

G'nir studied the Weyrleader's weyr from the door. It was his now, or
would be as soon as T'mahl would get his things out and he his things in.
He was already thinking what changes he would make, both in the office and
in the whole Weyr.

T'mahl looked up at the bronzerider as he carried a box out of the bed
chamber. "G'nir," he nodded by way of greeting. It was hard to remember
to call him Weyrleader.

"T'mahl," G'nir replied and bowed his head. There was no reason to be
disrespectful when the other one was a good looser.

"I'm almost done in here. I'm sorry, I haven't had a chance to finish the
office either. I have some candidates coming to help me in a candlemark
or so." It was easy to know what had to go from his Weyr.
_Everything_. But the office took a bit more sorting.

"That's fine. Meanwhile you could show me where everything is?" G'nir
asked and walked properly in.

"Well, come with me into the bedroom." T'mahl set his box down on the
table and waved to the new Weyrleader to follow him.

G'nir nodded and followed the other bronzeriders. "Quite large room," he
remarked when he saw the bedroom.

"It's one of the perks, I guess." Of course, T'mahl had felt a little
lost in it. He rarely shared the massive bed with anyone, and he had no
family to invite into it. Perhaps it had been wasted on him in the end.

"I see," G'nir said. There was plenty of space for a spare bed for his
son's visits. And perhaps he should bring his little girl to see how
Weyrleader lived!

"The closet is nearly as big." It could hold all his clothes and his
technician tools. "And there's an extra room, too."

"An extra room? That could be handy. Grilec would have a his own room for
his monthly visits," G'nir said.

"Well, it's the Weyrleader's Weyr. It's supposed to be the one everyone
wants." But very few would ever have a chance to live in. Perhaps he
should just feel good that he had that chance at all. Someday he might be
able to look at it that way.

"Yes, I suppose so. How about the office?" G'nir replied and asked. He
just hoped the other bronzerider wouldn't leave a mess after him. It
would then take forever get a hang of the records and hidework.

"It will take another day or two. There are plenty of candidates to help
pile things into boxes but I have to be the one to sort it all,
unfortunately." Otherwise G'nir would find himself missing half his
information.

G'nir nodded and smile understandingly. "Transitions of authority are
always complicated."

"At least I didn't have as much to sort through as D'wrayt did." For
that, he supposed, he should be grateful.

"Mm, he was a Weyrleader for long time," G'nir said and clasped his hands
behind his back.

And T'mahl obviously was not. "Well, it makes packing up the rooms
easier. How is your room coming?" Had he even unpacked from the move
to Dragonsfall?

"Very well. I travel lightly." Which was a bit of surprise, considering
his background. But he never felt any need to collect lot of personal
items.
Just his clothes and what you needed for daily hygiene.

"I guess I'm holding you up then," T'mahl said with apologetic shrug.
"I still have the whole other room to pack. I'd been using it as a work
room."

Yes, he was holding him up, but G'nir was too polite to say it out aloud.
"Take your time."

"You should see the size of your bathing chamber," T'mahl said, steering
the conversation back to the rooms.

"Big?" G'nir guessed.

"Weyrleader sized," the bronzerider nodded. He would certainly miss that,
not that he'd be sent back to the public bathing of course.

G'nir nodded again. The bigger, the better, he thought. One of the worst
cultural shocks to him as candidate and weyrling had been public
bathrooms, and not separated by genders too.

"Well," T'mahl looked around his room. _G'nir's_ room, he reminded
himself. "I don't suppose there's anything else I can show you in here."

"Right," G'nir nodded again. He couldn't wait to move in.
