She had managed to eat breakfast and get a sundress on. It was comfortable and not as hot as other types of clothing. Rhosyn pulled on some light sandals and decided she was ready. She could make it from her weyr to her office, but some of the other tunnels, she was still unsure about. Getting the hides she wanted together, she waited for her escort.
Im're had taken a wrong turn somewhere and had to backtrack which is why he was a bit late. "Ma'am? I'm Im're, your weyrling assistant for today. I'm sorry I'm a bit late."
She looked up and nodded. "Just don't make a habit of it. As a rider, being late might mean someone loses an arm." That was said offhandedly as she said goodbye to Orlaith, who rumbled in response.
"First, I need to go to the Records Room to pick up some things." She thought that would be fairly easy to locate.
"I'm not usually late," Im're said, bristling a little with the scolding.
"That's a good thing," Rhosyn said, offhand. "So Im're, you're a bluerider. Where are you from?"
"Originally from the Woodcraft Hall, then I Stood at Dragonsfall before trying my luck here," Im're grinned.
"And what do you think about being a rider so far?" She remembered the days when she had been a weyrling. It was almost funny, really. No one had thought she would Impress.
"Best thing that ever happened to me," Im're grinned a bit sheepishly. "Although facing Thread does kind of scare me."
"It is a very scary thing even when you've done it a lot." She frowned, following him through the tunnels. "Still, it is why we Impress and they are Hatched. People have been doing it for Passes." That was one thing that always eased her mind. She knew there had been so many before her, with troubles and thoughts, and yet they had kept going. Dragonkind never died out.
"So they tell us during the classes," Im're answered. "This way...eh, I think..." he pointed left at the intersection.
"You think?" Rhosyn stopped walking.
"I've only been to the Records Room once before and I came from a different direction," the weyrling admitted.
Taking a breath, the goldrider tried her best not to kill the weyrling. "Do you know where you are, though?"
"Ufh," Im're had to think about it. "We left from your weyr... if we go to that direction, we eventually end up at the dragon infirmary," he pointed with his hands. "Which means the Records Room isn't there."
"If we come to a main corridor, I'm sure we can find one of those map placards they have every so often." She loved those things. Of course most Weyrs had them. Otherwise, the maze of tunnels could get confusing quick.
"Main corridor I can find, it runs parallel to the river," Im're said with more confidence.
"Allright get me there and then we'll find a harper to take us to the Records Room." She'd give the weyrling a second chance, but she didn't have much patience for that sort of thing. Watching some of the people who passed them, she greeted the ones who said something to her.
Im're nodded and set out to move again. It didn't take long to reach the main corridor. "Here we are," he said when they stopped again.
"Okay..now we need a harper." Knowing how much things echoed off of tunnel walls, she didn't yell but she did speak loudly. "Hello, is there a harper in the crowd?"
One did appear from the crowd of passing people. "I'm a harper, how can I help you, Weyrwoman?" he asked with a respectful bow.
She thanked Faranth for small mercies. "I need to go to the Records Room and I really don't know my way there yet. Could you lead me?" Rhosyn hoped that sounded nice and appreciative, rather than impatient like she was feeling.
"You're in luck, I'm heading that way too. I'm more than happy to show the way," the harper replied, smiling most charmingly.
Rhosyn followed the harper, tugging on Im're's tunic. "Watch the way there, weyrling." Not only did she think Im're needed to know the way, but she was going to remember it herself.
"Yes ma'am," Im're replied with a meek tone. He knew he had blundered in the eyes of the new Weyrwoman and was quite embarrassed.
When they finally reached the Records Room, she thanked the harper and went about her business. "Im're, you're free to go for now. I won't be done for another candlemark or so." She needed to learn some things about her new Weyr, and the Records were always a good place to start.
"Yes, M'am. Shall I come to fetch you when you're done?" The weyrling asked.
"Aye that'll be fine." Testing him, she wanted to see if he could find his way back.
"I'll see you later then," Im're said, crossing his fingers and hoping he wouldn't get lost on his way.
