Description: D'cal comes to speak with Qorri about a broken pot.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 5 of Turn 5
D'cal hesitated a moment before knocking on the door. He really
hated to do this, but he thought it was the right thing to do. Part of
him thought it would be better just to forget the whole thing, but then
again, it could happen to someone else, and that was just not right.
Knocking, he peeked inside when he heard the summons. "Excuse me,
Headwoman, may I speak to you for a moment?"
She came up too fast and bumped her head on one of the wooden shelves.
A few tears escaped as she held her poor cranium. That was sure going to
leave a knot. Straightening, she was quiet as she tried to get through
the pain. "Aye?" Qorri was very still, cursing under her breath.
The bluerider winced when she cracked her head. Perhaps it was not a
good time. "I can come back later, if it's inconvenient..."
She waved her hand to indicate he better not leave after he'd caused her
to hurt so much. "Tell me."
"Well, uh..." He came into the room and closed the door behind him. "I
don't mean to accuse anyone of anything... Well, no, I do mean to but I
don't want anyone to get into trouble. Anyway, some people had asked to
come into my Weyr yesterday to do some maintenance, which is fine. But
when I left for drills, I had a little ceramic pot on the shelf near
where they were doing their work. It had sticks for burning to make my
room smell nice. Well, when I came back from drills, the pot was not on
the shelf, the sticks were nowhere either, but the lid was on the
table."
She sighed, automatically going where she knew he had gone in her
thoughts. They'd probably broken the thing. "Well I'm sorry about that
bluerider. Would you like me to find a suitable replacement or did you
have something else in mind?" It was clear the offending parties were
going to receive a tongue lashing and extra duties.
Qorri knew accidents happened, but she preferred honesty to rectify the
situation straight away, rather than deception to cover it up.
"No," he quickly assured her. "I don't want anyone to get into trouble.
I just think that in the future, if they break something, they should
tell the person, you know?"
"While I respect that you appreciate my staff, I can't let this just go
unnoticed or it may happen again. I completely agree with you which
is why it saddens me that it wasn't done." Her head was beginning to
ease now. Thanking Faranth for small mercies, she tried to think who
had been in his weyr.
Still, D'cal hated to be the reason anyone would get into trouble. "I'm
sure they didn't mean any harm."
"I'm sure they didn't either, but the fact that they weren't honest
about it leads me to believe there was an attitude of deception which I
will not tolerate. A lie of omission is still a lie." Qorri would do
anything for her staff as long as they followed her rules.
"Yes, but I don't want to imply that it was anything dear to me. Or
anything expensive." He certainly would feel like a complete heel if
someone showed up at his door with an apology, or worse, a replacement!
"I completely understand that. It's more the principle of the matter
which I think you understand or you wouldn't be here in the first
place." She fixed an eye on him, focusing.
Sighing, he nodded. She had him there. That was why he had come. He
just hated the idea of getting anyone into trouble. "Well, thank you
for listening."
"You're welcome. Come again if you ever need anything. Good day to
you bluerider. My duty to you and yours." Qorri looked him over as he
exited. He was a fine young thing, certainly.
