Where to Find a Searchrider?

Characters: Sh'lua, Sh'dori, Chamia
Description: Sh'lua finally gets a tip of a Search rider who could replace him at the Dolphin Cove weyr.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 1 of Turn 5

Sh'lua collapsed into a chair opposite of his father and father's lover, Chamia.

"Hello son, I haven't seen you around much," Sh'dori greeted and pushed a full tankard across the table for him.

Sh'lua snatched the tankard and took a long drink of the ale. "That's because I haven't been around much. I've been dividing my time between Weyr, C'lua and finding a Searchrider willing to transfer here in stead of me," he replied and lowered the mug back to table.

"You look ragged," Chamia noted with sympathising tone.

"I'm feeling bit ragged too," The bluerider replied and rubbed his face.

The temptation to arrange himself bit more _time_ grew more tempting every time he jumped /between/ Dolphin Cove Weyr and Dragonsfall Weyr. He had been around too long not to know about it and how to do it. The risk he would do it accidentally in his tiredness grew also bigger every day. Either that, or did some other mistake and never came out of /between/ ever again. Sh'lua pushed such gloomy thoughts out of his head. "Another month like this and I've wore so thin you can see through me," he groaned.

"You are already looking thin, you've lost weight," Sh'dori remarked bluntly.

"It's the time difference, messing my body so I've lost my appetite," Sh'lua said.

"This is not good for you," Chamia shook her head.

"You tell me," Sh'lua murmured.

"You get yourself killed," she sounded worried. "You have to transfer to Dragonsfall permanently or stay here, stop hopping between the two places."

"I transfer as soon as I found a Search rider to replace me here," Sh'lua had told them about his deal with the Wingleader.

"Haven't you found anybody?" Sh'dori asked. "Too bad I have no other Searchriders among my offspring."

Sh'lua groaned again and took another sip from his ale. "I've talked with Searchriders in Dragonsfall and I've talked with all the Searchriders I know from other weyrs. None of them are interested in transferring. They are all happy where they are now."

Chamia looked thoughtfully, while the father and son chatted. Sh'dori was inquiring after C'lua.

"You know, I have a cousin in Rising Moon Weyr, who is also a Search rider," she finally said, interrupting the men.

"Really?" Sh'lua turned his attention to the greenrider. "Would this cousin be willing to transfer here?" Hope coloured his voice.

"I have no idea. I haven't been in contact with him or my aunt for Turns," Chamia replied with helpless little laughter. She hated to get his hopes up only to have them crushed down again.

"It's worth finding out."
