J'ren stood outside and stretched. It had been a long day and he was glad that it was finally over. Dinner had been satisfying and the night was a pleasant one, cool and clear with the stars twinkling above as they put on their nightly show.
"Nice to be able to see them," T'kanu commented as he paused beside the Wingsecond, also looking up at the sky.
J'ren cast a sidelong glance at T'kanu and nodded. "Aye, that it is. Though I've heard tell there's some rain coming, hence the high, wispy clouds earlier."
"Have you not realised there's always some rain coming in?" the brownrider suggested with amusement.
J'ren laughed at that. "Aye, that there is, that there is. I suppose I shouldn't even bother with the warning." At least the stars were out that night and they could enjoy them. "So did you come out to enjoy the show as well or are you on your way somewhere?"
"Back to my weyr. My drinking partner's disappeared with one of your troublemakers and Delhara -" he never referred to her as his weyrmate, though he knew others did, "- is busy with her friends this evening."
"I could be your drinking partner if you need one." J'ren offered with a grin. He didn't have much going on either so he might as well spend it in pleasant company. "And which troublemaker?"
"My daughter. Teykara." He couldn't personally imagine Teykara causing trouble, but apparently she had. "And Tey, I suppose, when she hit that bluerider."
"Ah, I see." Yes, both of them had caused trouble of some sort, whether it be physical or with words. "At least they aren't the only troublemakers, eh?"
"What - more of my family?" T'kanu asked with an exaggerated sigh. "I thought they were all so easy going."
J'ren laughed at that, then shook his head. "No, no, others, no one related to you. That I know of anyway. You don't have any more dragonrider daughters I don't know about, do you?"
"Not unless Lhara Impresses this time around," the brownrider agreed. "But apparently the two I do have are trouble enough. Would they do better in another wing do you think?"
"What difference would changing their wing do?" They'd probably act the same no matter where they were put. "Changing their wing isn't going to change them."
"Sometimes problems build up between people - which aren't there with new people." The brownrider shrugged. "If you don't think there'd be any benefit then I'm sure yore right. They're both adult enough that they are responsible for their own behaviour, so I needn't try to fix things for them." He nodded in an upward direction. "I'll go back to admiring the stars with you."
"Yes, they are adults. And they need to learn how to deal with things on their own - but your concern just shows what a good father you are." J'ren turned his gaze back to the sky. "Ah yes, the stars. Think we'll see any falling?"
"Hmm. The occasional one if we stay out all night and get the dragons to help spot them ... But this isn't the best season, is it? Not here, anyway."
"No, but they don't always go by the seasons." Though T'kanu was right, it wasn't likely. "Still, it's always fun to look."
"Want to do that?" T'kanu was willing enough. With Delhara busy for the evening he had no other plans.
"Sure." There wasn't much else to past the night away, especially since they couldn't stay up too late. That was for the days before rest days. "Let's look away."
