Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 17 of Turn 5
F'gol's internal time was completely out of whack. Three days into their sevenday of night lessons had him completely confused. The sun was up, completely exposing the Weyr bowl and he was just waking up. What was worse though, is he was pretty sure he was late for breakfast. Well... lunch? When he arrived in the dining cavern he spotted Meledei at the table they usually sat at. Beside her though was someone he wasn't expecting, nor wanted there.
He grabbed a mug of klah and a plate of food that certainly wasn't acceptable food for a breakfast and sat down across from the two. The fact that Z'ku had a smug smile on his face and Meledei was grinning from something the bronzerider had said didn't put F'gol at any greater ease. "What are _you_ doing here?"
Z'ku blinked at the hostile tone. "Having breakfast."
Meledei, too, was a little put off by the statement. "Hey F'gol." The greeting was a cautious one. "Going to join us?"
"I'm here aren't I?" His mood was deteriorating rapidly but he couldn't seem to care enough to change it. He was getting sick and tired of Z'ku always hanging around Meledei whenever he wasn't there. He'd heard the bronze boys talk, he knew that they wanted her so that they'd have a better chance at her first flight.
A hint of a frown crossed over Meledei's features. The girl motioned to her plate which was not quite half empty. "I saved a biscuit for you."
"Thanks," F'gol replied, his voice softened slightly as he looked at her. He was sure she was completely oblivious of how they all hovered around her, but that didn't really make it any better in his mind. If he told her though, she'd make excuses for them, tell him he was imagining it.
This was his rival? This sullen, cranky bluerider? Z'ku sighed to himself, trying not to let his emotions get the better of him. He had nothing against F'gol, not really. Only he was a little ... annoyed that Meledei had chosen the bluerider over him. "This schedule doesn't agree with everyone, though I like getting up later."
"As an apprentice, we were expected to be up at dawn." F'gol gave as a terse reply. Z'ku was probably just too lazy to appreciate a good schedule.
"I remember that all too well." Meledei stated, then grinned. "But I must say, I do like being able to sleep in and stay up later. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts!"
Z'ku smiled at her before tuning to F'gol. "And night drills are necessary."
F'gol just stared at his plate and bit into his biscuit. Maybe if he didn't encourage Z'ku to conversation he'd just go away.
Meledei gave F'gol a sidelong glance, as if she were able to read his mind about his intentions. "Well, we shouldn't get used to it, no matter how nice it is. I know my father gets up pretty early in the morning as a full dragonrider."
Z'ku nodded as he finished a bite. "We'll be back to normal in a few days."
"And then we'll have to get up at the crack of dawn again." Meledei would much rather sleep in, but Elleth liked to be bathed and oiled before breakfast and she wasn't going to neglect her lifemate.
"I keep hoping I'll learn to like it. I haven't been that lucky yet." Z'ku chuckled.
"Even if we don't like it, we'll eventually get used to it." Meledei was used to it, even though she preferred to sleep it. "It just takes a while."
"I'm going to enjoy getting up late while I can," Z'ku said. And as long as F'gol kept sulking, he was going to enjoy talking to Meledei, too.
