Description: Tey misunderstands a situation.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 9 of Turn 5
Hot, sticky and stormy. Tey paused at the entrance to the dining cavern
and decided to take the long way around through the tunnels in the
cliffs. They were always cooler than the heat of the day, and on days
like this one were far less humid.
As she turned to retrace her steps she caught sight of B'lamick talking
to a young woman and she sighed. Not even any B'lamick to keep her
company on such a soggy wet afternoon. She might as well hole up in her
weyr and do some cleaning.
"Hey Tey, wait up!" B'lamick called as he caught a peek of the
greenrider turning back the way she'd come. "I'll see you later." he
said with a backwards wave to the girl as he bounded towards his wingmate.
Tey waited. "Does she have other plans?" she asked when B'lamick
arrived beside her.
"Fyara? I don't know." B'lamick said with a shrug, "She didn't mention
anything in specific while we ate. I guess she's probably going back to
work. Why?"
"No reason," Tey said, then added in complete disregard of her
statement, "I just wondered why you weren't spending more time with her.
But I suppose if she's working ..."
B'lamick looked at her oddly, "You trying to get rid of me? I didn't
mean to bother you."
"You're not a _bother_. Why would you think you are?" Tey put her hands
on her hips and glared at the young bronzerider. "Are you going to go
all silly and tricky and start reading things into things that aren't
there?" she demanded, not entirely coherently.
He laughed, not bothered by her quick temper in the slightest. "I won't
if you start making sense. Why do you want me to spend more time with
Fyara if it's not to get rid of me?"
"I thought you might _want_ to spend more time with her," Tey said, with
a laugh. "And what do you think I'm planning to do? I'm just going
back to my weyr to clean and tidy."
B'lamick grinned and rolled his eyes. "Why am I not surprised. It
doesn't matter though, I'd rather spend time with you watching you clean
than spend it with Fyara. She's nice, but clingy, you were doing me a
huge favor by walking my way."
"Well why wouldn't she be clingy?" Tey asked, surprised at his attitude
on the issue. "And we could tidy your room, if you'd prefer. Tidying's
a bit wasted on mine."
"Don't waste your energy on my weyr. No one ever goes in there but
me... and you I suppose." Though she didn't visit him there like she
used to, maybe the clutter was offensive to her?
"What about Fyara?"
He looked at her oddly again. "In my weyr? Tey, what is it about Fyara
that's got you so fixated?" She almost seemed jealous of the girl, but
surely not... not Tey.
"I just thought you'd be more interested," Tey explained, rather puzzled
by his reaction. "You know, in her and the baby."
It took a second, a second of staring at her dumbfounded before it
clicked. "Tey! It's not _my_ baby!"
"Not?"
"Not!" he repeated, annoyed that she would assume such a thing.
Tey chuckled, amused that the misunderstanding - of the very kind she
had been warning him against - had been on her part. "But she likes you
_so_ much, and is suddenly sprouting a baby. What was I supposed to think?"
B'lamick stuck out his tongue. How could she even _think_ that about
him. But then again, she was weyrborn, and weyr raised, and behaved
about as classically _weyr_ as one could get. Of course she'd think
that, and probably wonder if he had a few others running around as well.
He'd just have to set her right. "You're supposed to realize that she
probably likes _alot_ of people _so_ much, and should at least give me
the reasonable doubt. And for the record, I don't have any other women
around the Weyr or anywhere, running around with my kids."
Tey's smile widened. "I suppose you haven't been here all that long."
She patted his arm. "Soon you'll have plenty, just like every other
bronzerider." She was teasing a little, since he seemed determined to
assure her that he wasn't responsible for _any_ of the children around
the place. He probably still thought like a holder - that he would have
to provide in some way for his off-spring but eventually he would
understand that the Weyr provided for all children born to dragonriders,
a tradition that was even more important in a Pass.
He didn't think it was funny. In fact, he took it as somewhat of an
insult and he couldn't tell if she seriously believed it or not. "Not
soon Tey, you have to have sex in order to create little weyrbrats, and
I am not the bedhopping sort."
Another pat on his arm. "There are always flights."
"Not if we don't win." Latarth had yet to catch a green in a flight and
had actually only chased a handful of times. The Dragonhealers thought
B'lamick was inhibiting his bronze, but as long as nothing was
_physically_ wrong with his lifemate, he didn't really mind. "You won't
see me as a father any time soon, Tey."
"Aww. I could have been 'aunty Tey' to them," she said, tucking her arm
in his, quite worried about how seriously he was taking the whole
subject. "Come on, let's clean this weyr of yours."
B'lamick relaxed slightly as she touched him. If he ever _were_ to have
kids, he could only imagine them with Tey. Only problem was that she
didn't seem interested in trying for any. He wouldn't risk their
friendship on it either, kids weren't that important to him right now.
He'd take what he could get from Tey and be happy with it. "All right,
if we must. It probably hasn't been touched since the last time you
cleaned it though."
"Really?" Tey was rather pleased that nobody else had been messing
around in his room. "Wonderful. We should be able to fill the
afternoon in nicely, then."
"_All_ afternoon?" the bronzerider protested, his weyr wasn't _that_ dirty.
"Well, I've had some ideas ... About making it easier for you to keep
things tidy." She glanced up at him from under her lashes, her mouth
curved into a smile. She expected protests. There was only so far a
naturally untidy person could be pushed.
**Why does she have to look like that... look at _me_ like that?**
B'lamick inwardly groaned, it wasn't fair fighting and she had to know
it. "I've an idea too. Why don't you just come by and pick up my weyr
every morning before drills, that way it won't take all day next time."
"Because every morning before drills you're refusing to get out of your
bed! If you got up earlier - like some of us do - you'd be able to keep
your own room clean."
B'lamick bumped his shoulder against hers, it was one of the few tactile
gestures he allowed himself with her, and continued with the familiar
argument. "Ahh, but I don't have a problem with the way my weyr looks,
so why would I want to miss even an extra moment of sleep?"
She bumped him back. "People who visit your weyr might have a problem
with it. Like ... me."
"And you're the only one who counts." B'lamick replied with a grin.
"When you're done cleaning though, if the wind has let up, let's jump
someplace sunny. It's too humid to stay around here all evening."
Tey smiled. "Just us? That'd be nice. We seem to have had a lot of
hangers on, lately," she said, thinking of the pregnant woman about whom
the conversation had started, and who had been taking so much interest
in the young bronzerider.
"Just you and me." He'd spend _everyday_ alone with her if she'd let him.
"Sounds perfect," she said with a nod. "Come on then. The sooner we
start the cleaning, the sooner it'll be done."
