Description: F'gol and Meledei take things slower than originally planned.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 4, day 27 of Turn 5
Meledei sat in the big chair that had been brought up from storage. There was a rip on the back, but it wasn't noticeable with the chair against a wall. She fiddled with her carving, glancing toward the curtain that separated her dragon's ledge from the rest of her weyr. He'd be there any minute. Meledei took another slice off the bit of stick as she waited. She wasn't really trying to make anything, it was just something to do until he arrived.
F'gol and Tealth had been circling Dolphin Cove for near half an hour while the young bluerider focused his thoughts on what he had to do tonight. At first he'd been nervous, who wouldn't be, but he hadn't liked that feeling of helplessness so he'd decided to rethink the job that had to be done. It was just like any other task that he had been expected to practice and perfect. A duet to read through and then perform. He'd done it many times, and this was just a different sort of performance. Easier really, because it was only to be seen and heard by Meledei, his partner in the duet and his friend.
}:Then why are we up here?:{ Tealth asked with a hint of humor. While the blue had not been interested in any greens as of yet, he had taken the classes with his lifemate and knew what was to happen. It all seemed rather odd to him that the best person on the entire planet would have any problems with something so simple.
He snapped out of his looping train of thought, realizing that they _had_ been circling for quite a while now, and gave Tealth an affectionate slap to his soft dark blue hide. **Sorry, you're right, let's go down and see the girls. It wouldn't do to have Meledei mad at me for being late.**
}:They're here.:{ Elleth crooned an affectionate hello to Tealth and nuzzled him after her landed. She turned her head to cast a glittering eye toward F'gol, head cocked as if she were studying him, a protective mother eyeing the boy who's come to call upon her daughter.
"Hey F'gol." The seeds of nervousness began to sprout and she set aside her wood and knife then stood. "Come on in."
He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Meledei get up out of her chair and approach him. She wasn't dressed fancy or had her hair up any special way, she was just Meledei, and that put him at ease. "What were you working on?"
"Nothing really. I was just whittling to pass the time." Meledei shrugged as she glanced back at the piece of wood. "So...how are you today?" Was that how it was supposed to start out? It felt really weird trying to do this. What _were_ they supposed to do?
F'gol grinned, was she nervous? "Same as I was before dinner. How are you doing?"
"Fine. A bit unsure." Meledei could be hones with him, even if she did feel awkward. "Not sure how something like this goes."
"Well, that's why we chose eachother right? So we could figure it out together?" F'gol tried to sound sure, but he thought he was talking just a bit too fast to pull it off. Pulling it together he furrowed his dark brows slightly and asked, "You still _want_ to right?" He wouldn't be surprised if she had gotten another offer.
"There's no one else I'd rather do it with." Meledei slowly sat down in her chair once more. "It's just...I've never even _kissed_ someone before." She knew she was the minority in the Weyr and it wasn't something she was necessarily going to admit to just anyone either. How some of her friends would laugh if they knew, she was sure.
F'gol grinned again as her first statement pleased him to no end, but her second statement threw him for a bit of a loop. "You _haven't_? Seriously?" He'd believed her when she'd said she'd never had sex, but surely she must have been involved with _someone_ before. She'd grown up in a Weyr after all.
"Well...my father. But he doesn't count and it certainly was not _that_ type of kissing." Meledei flushed at the expression on F'gol's face. Yes, that was the sort of thing her other friends would have done, grinned, looked at her just like F'gol was, even laughed.
It wasn't as if he'd had alot of experience himself. His first real kiss had been with Aletta, a greenrider he'd met after the Harper Hall had come to the Weyr. But at least he'd had that. Suddenly he found himself nervous, despite the fact that he'd tried to bury that nervousness down deep like he would when he was playing. It had never escaped before, not this completely, and it only served to unbalance him more. "Huh... well... I was kind of hoping you'd had a _bit_ more experience..."
"I haven't." Did F'gol want someone with more experience? Was that one of the reasons he had asked her? Meledei twitched in the chair. She had never thought her lack of experience would be a problem. "If you'd rather go to someone else who does..." She trailed off, not daring to finish the sentence.
"No!" he nearly shouted, waving his hand out in front of him as if to physically stop her from leaving. "I mean, no... I'd prefer you... it's just, you know, a bit more pressure now is all." Sex he could reason as being for Tealth, it was something he _had_ to do, it was a job. Giving a girl a first kiss... well that was personal, and he wasn't prepared for something that emotional, it was catching him off guard.
"Really?" Meledei's brow creased in confusion. "I thought it would be less...no one for me to compare to...you know."
F'gol hadn't thought of that, but it didn't really make things any easier. Comparison wasn't really the point, it was the expectation wasn't it? And if it was, well, Meledei probably had a lot of it since she'd obviously never felt like giving her first kiss to just _any_ guy. Now she had to, for Elleth's sake, and F'gol didn't want to let her down. "Hey, I've an idea. Do you want to go for a walk? Maybe down the beach? We don't have to rush anything you know, we can take our time..."
"Sure, that's fine." Maybe a walk would be good. Would it help calm their nerves? He was nervous too, Meledei could tell. Neither of them had any experience, had they? No, otherwise they wouldn't be so nervous would they? She moved closer to F'gol, her hand sliding into his. "I'll do whatever you want to do."
The hand felt nice, normal, they'd held hands often enough over the last few months, they were friends after all. He gave it a quick squeeze and nodded. "A walk then."
