Birigundi

Birigundi

Demalia smiled as the brownrider came closer. "You made it today," she teased gently, giving him a smile.

"Yes, well, it's not that I exactly _meant_ to miss our last dinner," he said with a shy smile. "Roath won a mating flight. I had no choice but to follow him."

"I know," she said. "Roath has many favourites among the greens. Tapheth tells me she likes him."

"Yeah," K'len replied with a nod. "Roath likes Tapheth too I think."

"I think he made that clear when she rose last month," the flight had been good. Tapheth really seemed to enjoy it.

"Yeah," he nodded. "Roath really liked it." The brownrider blushed a bit as he remembered that he really liked it too.

"Shall we go and get some dinner?" she suggested. "That was what we were going to do last time."

"Yeah, that sounds good." They walked towards the dinning caverns in awkward silence. As they walked through the door it seemed everyone else in the Weyr had already arrived. "Um... How about I get us food and you find a seat?"

"Sounds good to me," she gave him a smile, as if to encourage him a bit.
"There's a free table over there."

He nodded. "Ok, I'll meet you over there."

Demalia took a seat, and settled herself in, watching K'len as he went to get some food. Glancing around her, she looked to see if there was anyone she knew. And there was someone, Birigundi - but he was not alone.

Despite the number of people, Demalia had a clear view of the candidate at the table ahead of her as he smiled, nodded, ran his fingers through his dark hair, ate, drank and laughed with the greenrider he was with.
He glanced up just then and caught Demalia's eye. His mouth curled into a smile and he gave her a little wave and a silent "Hello" before turning his attention back to his companion for the evening.

"You'll never believe the story I heard," said Hanni with a grin as she looked at Birigundi. "I got it from Selona, so it's probably true."

"Oh? I love a good story," he grinned.

"She was telling me about R'veq, you know green Estranth's rider," began the girl.

Meanwhile Demalia half heartedly returned the wave as she waited for K'len, there seemed to be a queue for dinner. It was likely he'd be a while. As she watched him, her eyes drifted back to Birigundi, he seemed to be having a far better evening than her. Maybe if it was him she was waiting for, maybe he'd hurry a little more.

"Oh no, not R'veq," Birigundi laughed with a shake of his head. "What did he do now?"

"Well you know he likes to 'dress' up?" she said. "In ladies clothes..."

Demalia watched them, lost in thoughts of how she'd talk to Birigundi, when K'len returned with a loaded tray. "I'm sorry, I was lost /between/ for a moment."

The brownrider smiled. "That's all right. I was caught in line. I hope you like tubers."

"Like that horrible red dress!" Birigundi roared loudly behind K'len.
"Shards that was funny!"

"Tubers would be great," she said with a smile, wondering what it was that had made the candidate laugh like that. "Did you get any salad?"

Hanni continued with, "This time he was out at a market, somewhere near Opal Cove Hold, and he was studying the weaver craft stalls, and the weaver. Apparently he wanted to try on some lacy underthings, wanted the poor man to fit them for him. If it hadn't been that T'matred was with him..."

"Oh, no, I didn't. Sorry. Did you want me to get you some?" K'len asked helpfully?

The runner slapped the table in his mirth. "Oh, shards, T'matred? He's almost as bad, you know."

"It's fine like this," said Demalia. "Sit down and eat," she leaned forwards a little feigning a little more interest than she felt.
"There's plenty here."

"Yeah, sorry, I didn't even think about salad." K'len gave her an apologetic smile. "I never really ate salad so much. I prefer cooked veggitables myself."

Birigundi leaned closer to Hanni, still chuckling. "Did I ever tell you about the time when T'matred danced around the candidate barracks in just his trunks with a face panted on his chest and stomach and a towel wrapped around his head?"

"No, sounds fun." She grinned, "Perhaps you could tell me more, or even give me a demonstration in my weyr. But clothing is optional there, as you well know."

"Couldn't you be tempted by one of my mother's cakes?" suggested Demalia. This evening really wasn't going to plan, K'len was proving to be somewhat boring. It wasn't that he was bad company, just not as nice as she thought. Birigundi seemed to be having so much more fun. If she was with him, no doubt she'd have been laughing as much as that greenrider was.

"Your mother's cakes are the best," K'len smiled. "I especially like the beachberry."

Birigundi smiled knowingly. "Well, if clothing is optional, there are a few other stories I would like to act out for you. Of course, those are more audience participation..."

"Tell me more," she purred. "I like the sound of that."

"Everyone likes the beachberry, and the sweetrolls as well." They were talking about her mother's cakes? This wasn't what she wanted, with someone else it might be more fun.

"Oh, yes, the sweetrolls are great," the brownrider agreed. "And the spiced meat pie. But I didn't see any today."

"Wellll," Birigundi drawled, "we could take a couple pies up to your weyr and I can recreate the drawing for you out of filling."

"I think you are going to have to tell me more, on the way." Hanni held out a hand to Birigundi as she got to her feet. "Coming?"

"Let's not forget to stop by the desert table," the candidate grinned as he took the greenrider's hand. "Shall we?"

"Of course, the spiced meat pies are usually only at special events.
Maybe that's why I like them so much," K'len continued as he stabbed a tuber.

Demalia nodded, watching Birigundi leave, why had she agreed to dinner with K'len in the first place. "Tell me," she said. "Did you apprentice before you impressed?"

"No, not really," he said with a shake of his head. "but maybe being a technician would have been fun."

"I just wondered if you might have been a baker, that's all," she said.

"No," said simply as he grabbed a roll out of the basket. He handed her one as well. "Try the rolls, they're great tonight."

She took it, and broke a piece off. "You're right," she said after tasting it. "The stew is good too." "Yes, the stew is excellent tonight."

If only the company was too, she thought.
