Just A Wingtip

Writers: Cali, Jane
Date Posted: 28th March 2009

Characters: B'lamick, Tey, Teykara, R'verve
Description: Tey gets into it with another wingrider and B'lamick and Teykara have to stop her.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 2, day 4 of Turn 5

Isleth was doing her best to calm her rider but the usually easy going
Tey wasn't going to be appeased. She was furious and if she had had the
ability to flame the way Isleth could she would have been flaming as she
ran across the dusty space that River Bluff called its Weyrbowl.

"You!"

"Oh calm down Tey." R'verve exclaimed in disdain as he pulled off his riding gloves. "It was just a wingtip, that green of yours is fine."

They were foolish and dismissive words and the other rider had only moments in which he might have reconsidered them before Tey's fist connected with his face.

When she wasn't dressed for flying or fighting Thread Tey favored pretty dresses and skirts and loved any excuse for dressing up but that didn't make her any less strong than her peers and weyrlinghood and months in the fighting wings gave her a wiry strength with which to attack the other rider. Her second blow followed the first, though not as well aimed and managed to connect only with the side of the man's head.

She was _perfectly_ satisfied with that. As long as she could keep hitting him she didn't care where the blows landed.

"Shards!" B'lamick hissed as he scrambled off of Latarth and raced over to Tey. "Tey stop! Stop!" He yelled as he all but picked the girl up as he twisted her away from the other rider.

Teykara reached the fighting riders hard on B'lamick's heels, grabbing her sister's still swinging fists in an attempt to prevent the young bronzerider being inadvertently hit for his troubles. "Tey! Tey! Calm down."

Tey allowed herself to be held but only because she was planning ahead. They'd let go in a moment and _then_ ...

R'verve tried to shake his head clear, Tey's first strike had blurred his vision like nothing else and her second hadn't helped steady him any. When he could finally focus again he saw his attacker as well as the group of wingmates surrounding them. He stood up, only then realizing that he had fallen to the ground, and approached the bronze and greenrider holding Tey. "Shards and shells! She's a mad woman!"

"Woah R'verve." B'lamick warned him back with a wave of his hand. "I'd back off if I were you."

He was nearly in reach and Tey lunged for him. He was an idiot and he'd been out of position and his dragon's flame had washed across Isleth's wingtip.

"Ahh, let her at him," Teykara said, not having much of an opinion of the other rider, though she didn't act on her words, instead ducking Tey's flailing arms and trying to catch them again.

B'lamick hadn't realized how strong the girl was, and if he'd had time to think about it, he'd have been impressed. Still, it couldn't be allowed to continue. "Tey, come on, calm down. Isleth is fine."

"You know, I thought River Bluff greenriders would have better manners than that." He replied sarcastically. He'd transferred out of Far Island to get away from temperamental greenriders, and yet here was another one.

"Perhaps if you could keep to you position in drills and 'Fall you wouldn't be running into so many temperamental greenriders," Teykara said scathingly even as she relaxed a little as her sister did.

"No wonder your Weyr was happy to see the back of you," Tey spat at the other man, finally listening to Isleth's added voice asking for her to calm down.

B'lamick didn't want to trust Tey's words. As he held her body, he could feel it still taunt and ready to pounce. "I think you should leave. You both need some space."

"Space!" R'verve cried, some nerve that fellow had. "I expect an apology before anything! She's a madwoman!"

"She's a dragonrider with a hurt dragon because of your incompetence," Teykara said. "Now go, or do we have to get somebody to take you away?" There were always more family members around who could help - and Tey was well-liked among the wing despite being not long a wingrider.

B'lamick's fury at the man's ego and accusation burned, and Latarth was quick to let loose a bellow at the man's blue.

R'verve flinched as the warning was passed on by his lifemate. He wasn't stupid enough to argue with a bronze, not at that distance. "Since I'm outnumbered... we'll leave. Don't think this won't go unreported though."

"You bet it won't," Tey said, finally getting her temper enough under control to speak sense. "You'll be lucky if you're not grounded." Who cared if she was? The bluerider was a menace - and an idiot as well.

"I'll make sure you _are_ grounded." R'verve threatened as he climbed back up on his blue, his bravery returning now that he was safely aback a dragon.

"All the better to be safe from wingmates like YOU!"

B'lamick waited until R'verve was in the air, then let go of Tey, not realizing until that moment that his hands ached from the grip he had on her flight jacket. "You okay? How about Isleth?"

Tey looked a little embarrassed. "She assures me it hardly hurts."

The older greenrider laughed at her sister. "Well let's get some numbweed on it so it doesn't hurt at all."

"You sure you're okay, Tey?" the bronzerider had noticed she hadn't mentioned how _she_ was doing. "I've never seen you react like that before."

"I was _angry_" she said snapped at him. "Just because I don't usually _get_ angry doesn't mean I _can't_."

"Duly noted." B'lamick replied taking a step back and throwing his hands up in the air for surrender. "I wasn't saying it wasn't justified..."

"Good. Now, how about you help me get some numbweed on this poor dragon before I go and speak with the 'Second."

B'lamick put down his arms and looked around, "I think your sis already beat us to the idea. Latarth says he'll stay with Isleth until Teykara comes back if you want to go ahead and go. She'll be fine."

"I'm _not_ leaving my dragon's care to somebody else," the young greenrider protested. "Even to you and Teykara."

"And Latarth!" B'lamick gave a mock cry of insult. Then he grinned, he wouldn't have left Latarth either, even if it was only a tip. The extra time might help her to calm down more any ways.

As they walked back toward the young green dragon Tey cleared her throat, finding it a little sore and wondering if she had been shouting at the other rider as well as hitting him. "Thanks, B'lamick."

"No problem." B'lamick waved it off, "Just remember to have my back the next time I get into a brawl."

"You brawl?" she said, surprised.

B'lamick chuckled as he put his arm around her shoulder and walked companionably to Isleth. "Not usually, but it's good to have a plan in any case."

"I'll be your 'plan' then," Tey agreed happily, her anger slipping away amongst the familiar banter with the young bronzerider. B'lamick was a real friend; the sort people thought they had and often discovered they didn't really. She was lucky - and she knew it.

Who would have thought that the hold-bred Candidate who had been so disapproving of her indifference toward Impressing would turn out of be such a good friend and wingmate?
