Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 1, day 23 of Turn 5
"I'm glad you felt like joining me today." Trellyn said happily as she laid on her float and idly paddled with her hands.
"I'm just grateful they're allowing me to come down here with someone. When they said 'no swimming' at first I thought they meant at all. Not just on my own." Kateena sighed happily as Civi swam beneath her and her hand trailed lightly across his back.
Trellyn looked over at the other dolphineer. "It won't be forever, just a few more months and you'll be back to full duty."
"A few months ... hmmm." She nodded slowly, "Maybe..."
She raised her brow in confusion. "Maybe? You aren't thinking of giving up the craft are you?"
"Oh no, no nothing like that." Kateena shook her head, and looking over towards Trellyn, "I..." she smiled softly, "I kind of like the idea of spending some more time with the baby and Swift, than just a sevenday or three after the baby arrives. Is that bad of me?"
"No, of course it isn't bad of you." Trellyn assured the dolphineer. "Jameea stayed with her babe for a whole turn before she came back. You need some time together as a family."
"I just don't want Civi to feel as if I no longer want to be with him..." she mused, "though I plan on the two of them getting to know each other as soon as possible."
Trellyn looked over to where the dolphin was eying them both. "You'll like the baby won't you Civi."
The dolphin rocked back and his tail fin, and chattered loudly, before back flipping and coming back up beside Kateena. His long, sleek body slipped below her outstretched hand.
"Baybee and Civi friendssss." His funny accent elongated the words as he spoke.
She noticed her partner Kibb swim towards Civi and give a little head butt in greeting. "See Kateena, he's not worried about the baby coming between you, so you shouldn't worry either."
With a small laugh, Kateena nodded, "He probably knows more about the baby than I do, anyway."
The two dolphineers swam companionably for a few minutes, watching the two dolphin partners play together. After awhile Kibb strayed closer to Trellyn and eyed her before sticking his head up and giving an excited series of click. "Civi and baybee friends and Kibb and baybee friends."
"See," Trellyn said to Kateena, "Even Kibb's happy about your baby."
"Trellyn baybee." Kibb echoed withe several sharp whistles.
If Trellyn hadn't been holding on to a float she would have sunk under water, her whole body froze when she realized that her partner was saying that _she_ was pregnant. "Me?"
Kibb bobbed his head and splashed water on her in excited pleasure at relaying the news. "Trellyn baybee. New friend."
Kateena stopped her lazy circles and began to tread water, her mouth agape. "You're....pregnant? How can that be?" she asked, her brows knitting in confusion. She knew better than to question the dolphins statement.
"I..." She knew how it could be. Her and Ednan's rendezvous had been getting more and more frequent. It didn't seem like they ever spent more than a day or two apart from each other, and while she had been taking herbs, she knew they weren't absolute. She couldn't admit it though, not even to Kateena. If anyone found out about her and Ednan then she'd be shipped off to some isolated sea hold and she'd never see him again.
Trellyn shook her head, trying to clear it as panic invaded. "Kateena, I need to go, to think. I'm sorry. I just can't talk about it right now. Can you keep it a secret though? Don't tell anyone, please, not even Swift."
Standing, she too moved towards the beach, "Sure, Trellyn. If that's what you want." She nodded slowly, not really understanding, but realizing that for now, the only thing she could do to help her friend was to do as she had asked. "If you need to talk.... you know where to find me, okay?"
She nodded, but she wasn't really paying attention any more, her mind was racing over the multiple possibilities of what this news could mean for her and Ednan's future... and they were bleak. "Sure Kateena, sure."
