Using The Space

Writers: Emma, Kastaka
Date Posted: 14th February 2009

Characters: Vasha, Kraygh
Description: Kraygh finds Vasha doing homework in his workroom.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 5 of Turn 5

She should have known, she supposed, that the little place with the desk and the telescope wasn't an entirely abandoned room by the lack of dust and the unusually fresh glows on the little-used internal staircase leading to it, but it was a nice place to sit and she'd been hoping she might be undisturbed, sitting cross-legged on the floor in the corner with her dragonhealing class notes spread across her knees.

"Excuse me?" The Starsmith was surprised to see a young candidate in his workroom.

Vasha swept the notes from her knees into her satchel bag and scrambled politely to her feet as soon as she wasn't going to throw dragonhealing notes everywhere from doing so. She cast a longing glance at her inkpot but didn't think she could spare the time to stopper it up and and put it away properly. "Sorry, sir," she apologised crisply, "I thought this place was abandoned and it's such a nice room to sit and work in."

"It is a nice room, but it is my work room." His tone wasn't angry, it looked like he'd surprised the girl enough.

"Yes. Um." This wasn't going as planned. The journeyman was meant to yell at her a bit for invading his space, she could be meek and polite and apologetic, and then she could run off to some other place. "I'll remember that it's in use from now on," she promised, hoping that would reassure the gentleman and allow her to go on her way.

"You should remember that, but for now, I think you should spend some time cleaning up in here since you have been using this space."

Vasha nodded agreeably, although she wasn't entirely sure what there was to clean up. The only thing of hers remaining not in the room and not in her satchel bag was the inkpot and its stopper, and otherwise the room looked like she could only make it worse by attempting to clean it. She started by bending down and stoppering up her inkpot, and putting it in her bag, to show willing.

"You'll find things for cleaning, mops buckets and cloths in the store cupboard next door."

"Okay," replied Vasha, starting awkwardly towards the door.

"And if you come here again, I expect you to clean up after, is that understood?"

"Mm-hmm," replied Vasha, finally understanding what he was getting at. He didn't mind her using the room, she surmised, but it was sufficiently out of the way that the cleaners didn't get up here very often, so he'd seen an opportunity to get a candidate to keep it spotless instead. That she could understand - and she was quite pleased that he was happy to continue letting her use his room.

"Good, now I'll be back in a candlemark, and this place had better be spotless."

"Yes, sir," said Vasha with a smile that just began to verge on 'cheeky grin', casting an eye over the place to see what needed dusting and tidying.

"Then get to it."
