Ri'len couldnt' help but cast a glance over to Sorsha. He wasn't sure why the Weyrlingmaster third had requested to see them privately. He didn't think they had time to do anything wrong! They had been weyrlings less than a full day. Ri'len hadn't done anything that he thought would cause concern for the staff, nor had Sorsha. So why single them out? Unless it had to do with their unique situation.
"Don't look so nervous," Sorsha teased Ri'len and gave his hand a quick squeeze. "G'len doesn't bite."
G'len sat in his office staring at but not really reading the hides containing information on each of the junior weyrlings. He had quickly learned all of their names, both dragon and rider, but it was also important to know which were weyr, hold, or hallbred and how long they had been candidates before Impressing. However, there was nothing written on Sorsha and Ri'len that he didn't already know, so he did nothing more but scan their files.
In some ways, the conversation they would be having was unnecessary. They knew the rules well enough. But, it was his duty to impress upon them the importance of not breaking those rules simply because they were in a now dissolved marriage. The fact that he knew and trusted Sorsha made no difference. And so, he went over what he would say one last time in his mind while awaiting their arrival.
Sorsha gave a quick knock on the slightly open door, then opened it so they could enter. "Evening G'len, what's up?"
"You wish to see us, sir?" Ri'len echoed in a sense after closing the door behind him, then looked to G'len expectantly.
"Yes, come in and sit down. How are you? And Monilath and Roseth?" There was no need to immediately launch into the reason he had called them in.
"We're doing well." Monilath seemed content, once he was fed anyway. "I had no idea dragons that small could eat that much."
Sorsha giggled, remembering a comment Roseth had made. "Roseth doesn't understand how we can eat so little."
G'len smiled. "Answering questions like that is what you'll spend much of your time doing now." He fondly remembered Tobereth's constant stream of questions when she was young.
"Monilath almost seems to like to sleep more than he likes to eat." Railen gave a lopsided smile. "He only seems to want to wake up when it's time to eat."
"They're still young. And, that is why I called both of you in today," G'len paused for a moment, still not quite sure how to say what he needed to, or how they would react. "Now that you have Impressed, you understand how strong the bond is between rider and dragon. When they are hungry, so are you. When they are scared or worried, you will know immediately. And, the bond works the other way too. You need to understand how important it is that you don't do anything that they can't understand yet. That means no kissing, no touching, and no explicit thoughts for the next few months." He paused to let them absorb what he was saying.
Sorsha thought of their brief innocent kiss before the hatching feast, but didn't mention it for fear of getting into trouble. "But holding hands is okay right? And hugging?"
"It's the thoughts that go along with your actions that are most important. If you hold hands and are thinking of doing more, that could be enough to confuse and alarm your lifemates. Tobereth and Chaneth will check in on their emotions frequently, just to be safe. Holding hands should be fine, although check to be sure. _Very_ short hugs are allowed but, again, make sure you aren't thinking of anything beyond that. Does that make sense?"
Sorsha nodded, then gave a little giggle. "I'll think of _fishing_ if I start having any stray thoughts."
Ri'len cast an odd look upon his love, then grinned.
G'len gave a small smile and nodded. "Fishing, farming, chores, anything." Looking at Ri'len he asked, "Do you have any questions?"
Ri'len shook his head. "This was all explained to us as candidates," He admitted, his grin fading a bit. "Drilled into our heads, actually. We'll make sure to play it safe."
"I'm sure you will. You should know that, if anything does happen, punishment could involve unpleasant chores, you two being kept apart from each other, delayed graduation into a fighting wing, or any number of other penalties. But, worse than that would be the strain placed on the bond with your dragonet and the stress you can cause them. Remember that whenever you think of doing something you shouldn't."
Deciding he had impressed the importance of this upon them enough, he once again smiled. "And, of course L'pin and I are here if you ever need to talk. We know this will be hard, and we would rather have you wake us up in the middle of the night than do something you will regret. In a few months, the restrictions will be lifted."
"I don't think that will be necessary G'len, but thank you." Sorsha said with a smile. She appreciated the fact that he only wanted to keep them safe, but really, he didn't have anything to worry about. They'd been together and with their dragons all day and they hadn't been anything more than curious about their lifemates spouses.
"Is there anything else, sir?" Ri'len asked politely, eyebrows raised. Really, they had so little free time during the days, he sincerely hoped they wouldn't be expected to spend all of it in a lecture.
"That's all. Do feel free to come speak to me, or have your dragon's bespeak Tobereth, with any questions." They were very confident now, but their thoughts might change after several sevendays. "See you bright and early tomorrow morning." He smiled.
