Description: Traelyn comes to congratulate Meledei before heading to the feast.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 23 of Turn 4
Meledei stood staring at her lifemate, trying to comprehend it all and failing. Why her? Of all the girls, and there had been plenty to choose from, why had she been picked? What qualities did she posses that had drawn the gold to her?
She wasn't complaining - oh not at all. Meledei just could hardly believe that she was worthy of such beauty. Every hatching since she had been old enough to stand all came to this. The waiting, the disappointment, the fears, the doubts, all washed away by the sudden reality that Elleth, beautiful, shimmering, glorious Elleth was hers, all hers, to be claimed by no one else.
The dragon tore at the meat given to her. Elleth had eaten enough that she wasn't quite so ravenous, but not so much that she wasn't still hungry. She had come to the point where she had slowed down, savoured the flavour more. Meledei still had her hand upon the gold, running it along her neck and back, feeling the silky smoothness of her hide, soaking in the warmth and spicy scent of her new lifemate. Hers. All hers. Forever.
"Congratulations, Meledei." When the girl looked up, Traelyn smiled down at her. "Elleth is beautiful."
It took a moment for the girl to register who had approached her and was speaking. Meledei's eyes had a far away look that cleared up as soon as her mind realised someone was indeed speaking to her, and that the someone was rather important. "Thank you, Weyrwoman." The smile that Meledei gave in return lit up her face. "It's an honour to have impressed a daughter of Nyith."
"Her first." Traelyn's smile was almost maternal in a way as she looked at the little gold. She was indeed small for a queen hatchling, but well proportioned. And there was certainly nothing wrong with her appetite! The pail of meat pieces was almost gone, and another full one had been placed next to it. She wouldn't finish it all, but she would probably make a slight dent in it. Nyith had. "I know you won't want to be parted from her for long, Meledei." Her expression was understanding. "But when she falls asleep and you're ready to leave for just a little while, I know there are a lot of people at the feast waiting to shake your hand."
"Yes, of course." It was expected of her to make an appearance, and Meledei had intended on going though she wasn't sure how long she would actually stay. She could already feel the tinges of fatigue at the corner of Elleth's mind even as the gold continued to devour the meat. It was fantastic, the bond they held, the way they could feel each other. Descriptions, being told by others, classes, it was nowhere near what others had said, though she knew they had done their very best to describe it to her. The girl sat under the warm scruitiny of the Weyrwoman, basking in the warmth of her approval. She hoped she didn't disappoint, neither her nor the Weyrleader. "I'll go once she is fully asleep."
Traelyn nodded. Although she was hesitant to voice this to anyone except Nyith, she was looking forward to taking this girl under her wing and help make a real goldrider out of her. It was going to be a challenging task, and she hoped to Faranth she was up to it. But she was the Weyrwoman. She had to be up to it. "Enjoy the evening, queenrider Meledei," she smiled. "Goodnight to you, Elleth."
"You as well, Weyrwoman." Meledei stated amiably. Elleth paused in her eating just long enough to regard the Weyrwoman with one of her jeweled eyes. It didn't last long, however, for she seemed much more interested in filling her stomach than paying attention to one of the leaders of the Weyr. "I'm sure I'll see you at the feast." Meledei added.
"You will."
