Someone to Swim With

Description: Terainel and Cosani run into each other again, and he offers to give her swimming lessons.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 16 of Turn 4

Cosani

Cosani huffed as she came around the rocks and saw the young man . "I thought I'd have this place to myself. I guess it's not so bad if it's you, though."

Terainel looked up at her from his seated position. " uumm, thanks, I think." he said, the corners of his mouth slightly turning upward. " I come here to be alone sometimes. I guess you had the same thing in mind." He continued as he stood up dusting off his pants.

She'd forgotten how tall he was. "Yeah. It's hard to find a spot to be alone."

leaning back against the rock, he folded his arms across his chest and crossed one foot over the other."I guess I spent too long on my own, I still need the solitude on occasion." He paused watching her for a second. "but then again, only one person is not like being around a whole Weyr full of people."

"No. It's so busy all the time. And the barracks are so full, sometimes I feel like I'm drowning." Cosani had grown up with a handful of people around and a small room all to herself.

He looked out at the water. " swimming has helped me too. Just me and the waves, that and I usually sleep really well after swimming for half a candlemark or so." he smiled a little as he looked over in her direction again.

Swimming made her think of Salubri and the other girls. She caught herself before she could frown. "I'm not a very good swimmer. Although I suppose I have plenty of time to get better at it."

"At least until the hatching" he said watching her reaction. ""If you really wanted to improve your swimming, then perhaps, if you had someone to swim with you, it would not take you long to become a strong swimmer."

She studied him. "Are you offering?"

He reached up and ran his hand through his hair. "well... yeah." His face turned a little red. "I wouldn't mind, it would be kind of nice to have someone to swim with."

Cosani looked out at the water, feeling her face warm. "Yeah, it would."

He thought for a moment. "I usually go swimming after the evening meal. If you decide to, you could meet me out here" He told her looking out into the water again. "I like this area because it has a gentle slope into the water, so it gets deeper slowly."

"You won't try to steal my clothes or anything, will you?" She asked.

He looked at her, head cocked to the right side, "what?" he asked confused. "Why would I do that?"

"Um, never mind. Forget I asked." Great, now she looked like a dimglow.

Seeing her reaction, he figured that pranks had been played. "let me guess, the other girls are up to pulling pranks."

"That they _think_ they can get away with," she muttered.

Terainel nodded his understanding. "I promise, no pranks from me" he told her hand over his heart. "besides, I will be out in the water with you, that way there are no chances for such deeds" he added with a small smile.

"Good. It would be hard to get you back, since you're on the other side of the barracks." A gleam lit her eyes.

A small chuckle escaped before he could stifle it. " and I have no doubt you would find a way"

"Just remember not to make me mad." The corner of her lips twitched.

"I will do my best " he promised the small smile still there. A loud noise emitted from Terainels midsection. He quickly put his hand over his stomach as if the action would cover up the sound.

Cosani's eyebrow went up. "Skipped lunch?"

His ears and cheeks turned red. " it was a light lunch at best" he said rubbing his stomach. "I didn't want to sit inside on such a nice day. I just grabbed something light and went out get a breather between classes."

"Ah ... I don't think your stomach is happy about that."

He chuckled "apparently not. I guess I should be a little more selective when getting something to take outside." He rubbed his stomach again as it let out another protest. It' a good thing I won't have to wait too long for the evening meal."

"Maybe we could eat together?" She suggested.

"Sure" he stammered nodding his head, "That would be great. We could talk about how you would like to start your practice sessions." he said trying not to sound too excited.

"Okay." Cosani smiled, just a little.

He breathed in deeply. "Good, I look forward to it." He ran his hand through his hair again. "I suppose I have to report for my chores." he said with a sly grin. "I am sure that I am already late. Are you going back in? or are you going to stay here a little longer?"

"I have a few minutes before my next chore," she said. "I think I'll stay out here."

He could not help but smile a little as he turned to go, "I'll see you in the dinning hall" he said over his shoulder.
