Two Left Feet (1)

Writers: AL, Elyriel
Date Posted: 21st January 2009

Characters: Zelle, T'marek
Description: Zelle corners T'marek after the hatching and makes him dance.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 23 of Turn 4

"Hello handsome." Zelle slid right up to T'marek's side and grinned up at him. She had actually dressed up for the feast, a dress of green, a hue very close to her dragon and worn in honour of her lifemate was gathered at her waist, the skirt falling to her ankles. She hadn't worn a dress in quite some time, but had decided to go a little more formal for that hatching feast. Why? She couldn't say. But she did it anyway.

The greenrider hooked her arm into T'marek's and she motioned to the floor where people were already moving in rhythm. "I need a dance partner."

The almost smile that had been forming on his face rapidly changed into one of near horror. "Then I'd suggest you go find you one." T'marek replied, determined not to let the greenrider have her way this time. Dancing was not something he did. Ever.

"I can't." Zelle stated flatly, her bottom lip poking out in a pout. "There's only you. Besides, I want to dance with the best brownrider in the weyr, so come on."

Digging his feet in, expecting to be pulled along at any moment, T'marek shook his head. "If you're looking to dance with the best brownrider, I suggest you look elsewhere. While I have my moments, I would only embarrass you on the dance floor."

"It's never an embarrassment to be with you." Zelle stated firmly, still plucking at his arm with insistence. "It would be an honor and a privilege to have this dance with you. Please don't make me beg. I'll have to get down on my knees and that might mess up my dress and I don't wear dresses very often. You'd best write this down, it's a rare day in history."

With a heavy sigh, T'marek hung his head. "I hope you don't mind bruised feet." He muttered. "Because dancing with me is definitely going to earn you at least that. Perhaps a few broken toes."

"I'll heal." Zelle assured him cheerfully as she led him out onto the floor. "And besides, there's always time to learn how to improve, right?"

"Yeah. Sure." The brownrider replied, dragging his feet. "But don't say I didn't warn you."

"It's okay, really." Zelle paused at the edge of the dancing area and placed her arms in their proper positions. "Perhaps you'll be better than you think."

T'marek laughed, the sound devoid of humor. "And perhaps for once, you'll be wrong." He replied, leading her out onto the floor with awkward, stilted movements. He honestly could not remember the last time he'd danced. It had been twenty turns at the very least. "Oops... sorry." He murmured as his big booted foot tromped on one of her smaller, daintier ones.

"It's okay." Zelle didn't even wince. Perhaps she was used to men trampling on her feet. She reached up to rub T'marek on his shoulders. "Relax, relax. You're stiff and that's going to make it harder. I promise I won't bite you."

"No, but I might." T'marek growled softly, frustration at himself at his inability to do such a simple thing as dance. Taking a deep breath, he let it out slowly, trying to follow her advice. It didn't seem to be working.

"Promise?" Zelle's voice dipped low, teasing. "Don't look at your feet." She stated softly. "Look at me. Don't watch your feet, watch me. You'll just make yourself stumble if you watch your feet."

Looking at her, T'marek snapped his teeth as if to bite, the first time he'd actually attempted to openly joke with her. "I'm looking at you. Not at my feet... and I still feel uncomfortable. Is the song almost over?"

"We still have at least three more songs." Zelle couldn't stop the laughter from bubbling through as she spoke. "I like your spirit. Look, we've gone through several beats and you haven't stepped on my toes again. When you relax and actually look at me, you do just fine."

Just then his foot slammed down on hers and he winced. "Perhaps reminding me how long it had been wasn't such a good idea." T'marek replied ruefully. "That's gotta hurt."

"It does." Zelle had managed yet again not to wince and her smile never wavered. "But that's okay because I know you don't mean it and I'm enjoying my time with you."
