"Good morning Morina!" Briata called cheerfully as the woman entered main room. The younger was already dressed and seemed rather bright for being first thing in the morning. She sat in the rocking chair and carefully worked upon some colourful embroidery. "Did you sleep well?"
"I did, thank you." Morina nodded and noticed that they were alone in the room. "Are the children up?"
"As far as I know, they're still sound asleep. I've not heard a peep." Briata locked her needle into her cloth. "I wasn't sure what their schedule was so I didn't wake them."
"Taljen usually wakes them when he gets up, but he said he was leaving early to work on one of his projects." Morina explained, "I'll get Talmina and the children ready and then we can go down for breakfast."
"I'll help." Briata pushed herself out of the rocking chair. "It will be faster with the two of us. The sooner the better, too, for I'm rather hungry!"
***********
Talmina was rudely awoken from a wonderful dream involving a handsome dragonrider by Briata shaking her shoulder. "Leave me alone, I'm dreaming."
"Come on, it's time for breakfast." Briata urged gently as she released her cousin. "Your mother's waiting and you've already slept past your normal waking time."
"I need it after all your snoring last night." Talmina muttered, flipping back away from the girl. She didn't appreciate her mother and father taking in the girl, especially since it took attention away from _her_.
Briata shrunk back rather startled by the girl's venom. "I didn't realise I snored she stated, though she had a sneaking suspicion that she didn't do any such thing. The girl watched her cousin, a small frown tilting her lips downward. "Is there anything I can do to help you get ready?"
Talmina gave a exhaggerated pained sigh, "Just go help mother with the children. I can get dressed _by myself_."
"I know you can, I was simply trying to be helpful." Without another word, Briata whisked from the room, skirts rustling after her. What was wrong with Talmina? She had certainly gotten up on the wrong side of the bed that morning!
*************
Morina looked up as Briata came back into the main room. The children were trying to slip their boots on, but they always needed her help so she took turns lacing them up correctly. "Talmina coming?"
"Well, I woke her and she said she could get dressed by herself, so I hope so!" Briata stated as she moved over to help with the lacing. "I think she is a bit cranky this morning."
Morina knew her daughter was having difficulty adjusting to a roommate, but it was only for a few sevendays until the wedding, and it's not like Briata was any trouble. "Well, perhaps some breakfast will make her feel better."
"True. An empty stomach can make one cranky." Briata agreed as she finished lacing a shoe and tweaked the child's nose, causing him to laugh in delight. "So what are the plans for today?"
"Gonna fly dragons!" The little one exclaimed in glee, waving his arms around.
"Oh is that so?"
"I'm a bonzerider!" The boy announced, still flapping his arms.
"Be warned Morina, I think your children are going to fly off today." Briata laughed as she scooped the little boy into a hug.
"Well as long as they tell someone where they are flying off to." she replied humorously. This sevenday it was dragonriders, next sevenday it'll be miners or healers.
"Bree's gonna come wif us." Phyrin, the elder of the two youngest replied. "She's gonna be Weyrwoman."
"Is that so! I think Ishek might have something to say about that." Briata laughed.
Talmina walked into the room as she straightened the bow on her head, "Oh please. Can't you go a single conversation without talking about the man?"
"Talmina!" Morina admonished her daughter, that was no way to speak to her cousin.
Briata gave Phyrin one last squeeze and then stood. "No, Talmina, I can not for he is now a very large part of my life. I'm sure you will understand when you too find someone to love and marry."
Talmina mumbled something that sounded like 'stealing' and 'what she wanted', and then huffed out the door, not waiting for the rest of the family.
"I'm sorry Briata," the girl's aunt replied, "I don't know what's gotten into her lately."
"It's not your fault, Morina." Briata flashed a smile to her aunt. She knew good and well what had gotten into Talmina and the other girl was simply going to have to deal with things. "Come on, why don't we get some breakfast. I'm about to starve!"
