Neat By Nature

Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 2 of Turn 4

"Always meet in Jh'slaen's room," F'naren advised the other young
dragonrider as they met in the corridor not far from the mentioned
greenrider's rooms. "He's neat by nature. There's always somewhere to
sit. Er - but he says that's _not_ because he's a greenrider. NOT.
Don't forget that."

"Are you sure?" B'lamick said with a chuckle, "Tey's such a neat freak
she came and cleaned _my_ weyr once."

"Ahh, well that'd be all right to mention. Just avoid mentioning male
greenrider and neatness." F'naren grinned. "Did she really? Tey?
Huh. She's never done that for me."

They stopped at the door and B'lamick gave it a solid knock. "Don't
worry, she'll get around to you, just mention how you like to leave your
socks on the floor and she'll be there the next morning rolling you out
of bed. Just don't mention it before your rest day... I speak from
personal experience!"

"Warning noted," the brownrider said, reaching around B'lamick to
unlatch the door. "He's also always ready early," he explained,
indicating the greenrider who was halfway across the room on his way to
the door. "I wonder if two greenrider - male and female - ever live
together ..."

Jh'slaen frowned. "What are you going on about? Hello, B'lamick."

"Hey." B'lamick replied as he stepped inside.

"I just think I've found the perfect woman for you."

B'lamick surveyed the immaculate weyr and couldn't help but agree.
"Tey's going to love your weyr, it's almost as clean as hers is."

"It's because we get back from 'Fall so early," Jh'slaen said, before
F'naren had a chance to. "Greenriders. Plenty of time to tidy."

The boys chatted for awhile and drank some wine that Jh'slaen appeared
to have plenty of, but eventually decided to start the cards without
Tey. "I wonder what's keeping her? Besides being a clean freak, she's
also very punctual, if not early to everything."

"I don't know her that well," F'naren admitted. "But she's always on
time for drills. Perhaps her green's risen or something."

"Like there's no other reason for _anything_ in a greenrider's life,"
Jh'slaen protested, discarding some cards and being dealt others.

B'lamick lost all interest in his cards as he fervently tried to rouse
Latarth from his slumber. **Wake up! Wake up! Has Isleth risen?**

It seemed like an eternity for the bronze to answer }: No, she sleeps
like me.:{

He hadn't realized he'd been holding his breath until he found himself
exhaling loudly with everyone watching him. "I uh, just checked." he
explained, "She hasn't risen, so uh, she must just be running late."

"See," Jh'slaen said, eying his fellow dragonriders with an amused
glance fairly sure neither of them would beat his hand - especially not
B'lamick who barely seemed to be paying attention. "It's not always
about a greenrider's dragon."

B'lamick tried to focus on his cards, but he couldn't stop thinking
about Tey. What if Isleth _had_ been rising? Would Latarth have
chased? Would he _want_ Latarth to chase? Of course he would want him
to chase, it was better for Tey if she went through it with someone she knew and not with some stranger who might abuse her. "Um, two cards."

"There you go," F'naren said, as aware as his friend of B'lamick's
distraction. About the greenrider? The brownrider smiled. The pair
were together as often as not, though he hadn't thought there was any
romance in the air. Tey, from what F'naren knew of her, was a very
practical, well grounded girl. Nothing flighty about her for all she
always dressed in girly-clothes.

The bronzerider laid the cards on the table and stood up, "I got nothing. Anyone want a refill?"

Jh'slaen looked at his almost full glass, and then at F'naren's untouched one. "Er, no, we're all right." He bet some of the small shells they used instead of chancing their marks and then bet again. "Does Latarth know where Tey is, then?" he called to the bronzerider.

B'lamick realized his glass was almost full as well so he hurriedly gulped it down so he could refill it. "Latarth and Isleth are both sleeping, I didn't get much out of him."

"Hmm." Jh'slaen sent a smirk in F'naren's direction as the other rider showed his cards, and then reached out to pull the small pile of shells toward him. "Well, then, it can't be anything serious. Isleth wouldn't sleep through anything being really wrong with her rider."

"She probably just fell asleep or something after drills. She'll find her way here eventually. Deal out another hand." B'lamick reasoned sitting down again. Jh'slaen was right, if Isleth was sleeping then Tey was okay, there was no sense in being worried.

"All right. Your turn to deal, though."

"Hopefully my turn to win, then," F'naren muttered, looking mournfully at his already depleted pile of shells.

B'lamick started shuffling the deck, then made sure to toss in his ante before dealing out the cards. "Nothing's wild."
