Description: The two chat before Tey's first day with Torrent Wing.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 11 of Turn 4
"First day," Tey said brightly setting herself down at the table
nominally reserved for the members of Torrent Wing. The bronzerider she
addressed in such cheerful tones knew well enough what day it was
because he had been celebrating her graduation and appointment to the
Wing the night before.
The slim, twenty-Turn-old greenrider looked at her plate and grinned.
"Nervous eating," she said, though in all honesty nerves didn't bother
her much as she came from a bloodline that was notorious for its
easy-going and placid nature.
"Eat up Tey, we're going to work you hard this morning!" B'lamick said
gleefully. He'd been pumped up ever since she'd told him she'd be
joining Torrent Wing. Having Tey in his wing was going to be the
_best_. He'd get to see her every day, eat meals with her, train with
her... she was his _wingmate_ now!
"Ohhh, I'm looking forward to it." Tey assembled a large bread roll,
still warm from the morning's baking, with cheese and fruit spread. She
studied the roll, then added some more cheese. "Extra rations for
strength to keep up with my wingmates," she informed him with a wink.
"How was your first day with the Wing, B'lamick?"
He tried to think back as he took a bite of his meatroll. "Long. I
just remember being so tired that first sevenday. After the first
Threadfall though it got easier."
"You mean you weren't so worried about making an idiot of yourself?"
"Oh I knew I was going to make an idiot of myself, and you will too, at
least once, you're not _that_ perfect," he teased as he playfully bumped
shoulders with her. "But then it'll pass and there will be someone else
making an idiot of themselves. We sort of just take turns so none of us
feel left out."
"Well, that's sort of sweet," Tey drawled, bumping shoulders back. "And
I didn't say I wasn't going to make an idiot of myself, just commented
that _you_ undoubtedly felt better after you'd got that first Threadfall
over and done with and knew you could. Blooding's all very well but
flying 'Fall with your Wing for the first time is pretty much going to
set people's opinions for some time to come."
B'lamick took a another bite, "It's not like you have to impress for
long, you'll only be up there for half the Fall."
Tey rolled her eyes. "Couldn't resist it, could you?"
"If it works, why drop it?" He grinned, once again reminded that she
was really in _his_ wing!
"Well I can't wait to see how you behave around the old and grumpy
greenriders. The mean ones who growl every time they see a young
bronzerider who thinks he can laugh at their little dragons." She
growled unconvincingly, not helped by pausing in the middle of it to
take another bite of her breakfast roll.
He almost choked he was laughing so hard at her adorable growling. When
he caught his breath again he noticed that they were the only two left
at the table. "I don't want to rush you, but is Isleth ready, or do you
need to run back up to your weyr before drills?"
"Isleth and I are both perfectly ready," Tey said loftily, brushing the
crumbs from the front of her rather plain work shirt. "It is, after
all, our first day."
"Okay, I've got to go get Latarth saddled up still," he explained, "so
I'll see you there."
"Why am I not surprised that you're not organized," Tey muttered, also
getting to her feet. "I've seen your room. It ought to have been
warning enough."
He gave her an impish grin, "I don't have to impress today!"
"You have to impress _me_," Tey said with a laugh. "Since it's the
first time I've seen you flying in a Wing."
"Don't worry, I've got plenty of time to out fly you." He gave her a quick wave and was off before she could retort. He didn't often get the last word, and he was going to enjoy it!
Well, if she wasn't going to get to tell him what she thought of that she might just ...
Munching another hastily assembled roll she headed out of the dining cavern and off for her first day with her new Wing.
