"So which one do you want?" Trellyn asked excitedly as she watched Ednan stare at all the uncovered firelizard eggs. She had to take the eggs up to the Weyr today and hopefully sell them, but she wanted Ednan to be able to choose for himself before she left.
"Does it really matter? Based on what I have heard, there's no telling what colour will hatch out," Ednan said, admiring the eggs with kind of reverence. "They are beautiful."
Trellyn looked over the eggs and again noticed the small differences in size and coloring. "I don't think it's an exact sort of thing, but some are larger than others, and these over here have kind of a mottled coloring while these over here have a bit more all over look to them. I don't know, do any of them just strike your fancy?"
"I like this one," Ednan gently picked up an egg. It was bluish with some mottled greenish-bronze hues.
"Looks good," Trellyn said, though she had no idea what may lay beneath the hard outer shell. She'd seen so few actually hatch, and those that had hadn't appeared to have any pattern involved in uncovering their color or intelligence. "Do you have a guess on color?"
"Blue, green or bronze?" Ednan guessed based on colours on the egg. Trellyn chuckled, "That narrows it down doesn't it. It'll probably be brown then since you didn't call that color."
"We'll see that in a sevenday or so," Ednan said and tenderly stroked the egg's smooth surface.
"Just remember to turn the egg to keep the heat even." she reminded him as she started to bundle the rest of the eggs up for transport. "Swift is usually around here somewhere and he can help you if you have any questions while it's still on the hearth. Carry and the other firelizards will start humming when it's about time for egg to hatch so you don't have to worry about leaving it alone either."
"I keep a good care of it," Ednan promised.
Trellyn finished bundling up the eggs and stood, giving her long limbs a stretch, "Want to walk with me to the Weyr?"
Ednan nodded.
