It was an odd sort of relationship thought K'deren as he made his way to see the Weyrleader. Nobody would call it friendship by any stretch of the imagination. But he knew that if the positions were to be reversed, then J'darin would come to check on him.
J'darin would have gone to see him, most certainly. Even still, he was surprised to find K'deren slipping around the curtain. Bandages cradled his entire right arm and down over his right leg. Pain was coming in waves, sometimes worse, sometimes non-existent. He nodded to the brownrider with an almost welcoming quirk to his lips. "Hello, K'deren. Sit down. Wing alright?"
"They're fine," replied the brownrider as he pulled a chair over. "Surprised a little by events, but doing fine." And it was true, nobody expected the normally careful Weyrleader to be the one who ended up in the infirmary. "No more surprised than Hasaarth and I." He sighed, tilting away from the bandages. "I feel like a weyrling just out of training." He said grouchily.
"It isn't your fault, thread can get any one of us at any time," probably useless words that the bronzerider had heard many times already. They all knew the risks when they took to the skies against thread.
J'darin nodded, but added in his mind. *Not us. Not me and Hasaarth..* His voice was quiet, strained. "I'm just glad the Weyr made it through alright." A faint frown crossed his face. "I have new sympathy for all the wounded riders though... this is... well.. I hate this." He waved a hand to the bed he was laying in and the large swath of bandages on his right side.
"Have the healers given you any idea how long you'll be in here?" asked the brownrider. "I'd hate to be laid up for longer than necessary."
The frown grew darker. " A month at least!!! And they haven't let me see Hasaarth yet!" He growled, forgetting for the moment that K'deren was not precisely his friend. He just wanted to vent to anyone who would listen, it seemed!
"How is he?" K'deren asked, it seemed the logical next step.
"They say he will be fine. He says he will be fine. But his pain was so strong..." He sighed a bit, then turned to K'deren again. "But we can't fly together for sevendays. My jailers..." He nodded toward the door.
"For your own good, or so they say," commented K'deren. "But what do they know if they don't ride a dragon."
"Hmmph! You'd think they know better. But I am going to try to get to Hasaarth later today, when they turn their backs." He smiled slightly, content with just the thought of seeing his bronze.
"I'd like to see them try to stop you." Any dragon was too big for the infirmary, but most healers realised that with a rider patient who was mobile enough to get to the entrance it would be possible for them to see their life mates.
J'darin smiled at that, and nodded to the brownrider. "Thank you, K'deren. And thank you for coming to visit me. I appreciate it, very much."
"You would do the same, if the situation were reversed."
J'darin agreed, surprisingly, and nodded his head again. "I most certainly would." The fellis began to take effect, making his eyes droop just a touch.
"I'll leave you to rest shall I?"
"I suppose the Healers are winning this battle." He frowned, but it was a little shaky. His mind was going foggy, a bit. "They keep dosing my juice!"
"They'd say they know best."
"Well _I_ say they're a bunch of Aunties who hover!" He said it as loud as he could given the fellis and the weakness.
"Probably," said K'deren as he slowly made his way out of the cubicle.
J'darin looked after him with an odd look. No, they would never be friends.
But he had visited. That was good.
