"Do you think they'd mind if I came to keep you company in the kitchens?" Kateena asked, sitting up on the edge of the bed. She had become increasingly restless over the sevenday she had been ordered to rest in bed. "If I have to sit here for one more day, staring at these hides, I'll go mad!" she declared, flipping the edge of the pile with her hand. "I know its still being productive, but honestly Swift, I'm _so bored_!"

"No kitchens for you," Swift said firmly. Didn't she realise how dangerous they could be? "Why don't you ask Master Mahantan if there's an apprentice who needs extra coaching?"

"Aw..." she pouted, "I'd love to come and watch you work. Take my mind off the fact I'm shorebound." Though his suggestion that she take on an apprentice for coaching wouldn't be a bad idea. She wondered if Alydelle would be willing to have extra lessons, the girl was always so self conscious when others were around maybe extra coaching would bring her out of her shell. "I s'pose I could go and see Mahantan, as well."

"I think that would be the best idea. Perhaps you could help him with hidework? Or offer to help the new Hallmaster? I'm sure she would welcome your help and your local knowledge."

"I don't have that much local knowledge really." She shrugged, "but I suppose you're right. I'm just sick of the sight of hides and paperwork. I want to do something active for a change."

"As long as you stay where you're safe in case you faint again. Not in the water, not alone, and take care on the stairs." It was disappointing that the healers couldn't rule out serious illness like Belevi had contracted, but even he had to admit they hadn't seemed unduly panicked by Kateena's symptoms.

"I promise." She nodded, "I'll get dressed and go up and see if the Hallmaster is available to talk. She might have more ideas of ways I could be useful." She brightened at the thought. "Then I might pop into the dining cavern to read. At least I'll get to see other people, even if I'm not allowed into the kitchens."

"It's not that I don't want you in there, it's just that it's not really a place to faint." And somewhat beneath the dignity of the journeywoman dolphineer to hang around doing kitchen work, in his opinion.

"You just don't want to spend any time with me, because I'm a complaining pregnant woman," she chided playfully.

"Oh, yes, and that too," he agreed amiably. "Now, shall I walk you down to Master Mahantan's offices?"

"You can if you want to," she said, pushing herself from the bed. "If you can bear being with me for a little longer." She flashed him a smile, before dropping a kiss on his cheek.

"I think I can put up with you," he informed her, getting to his feet. "Shall I pack up these hides to take with us?"

She glanced at the work she had spread across the bed and shook her head, "No, they can be left for now. If I don't get anything more interesting from Mahantan or the Hallmaster, I'll come back and collect some before I go to the dining hall."

"Send an apprentice back. Less running around for you.

"I need some exercise. I know they said I'm to take it easy, but - I still need to get out for a walk every now and then." She had become sick and tired, very quickly, of being cooped up in their quarters. She wasn't used to it, and didn't think she ever would become used to it. The baby was fine, everyone said so, and Civi had confirmed it, so as long as she took it easier than she had been, they could see no reason for her to stay at bedrest. But she knew Swift worried and _why_ he worried.

"Exercise along the flat, not up and down the stairs, perhaps." He rubbed her back in an affection gesture that complemented his concerned expression. "I know you'll be sensible."

"I will sweetheart, I don't want anything to happen to our baby." her hands cradled protectively around her abdomen. "And I _do_ understand how you feel. So please, don't worry too much, I'll not do anything to jeopardise _us_."

"Always remember how important _you_ are to me, Kateena. It's not just about the babe, though it would be awful if anything happened to him."

"Or _her_." she couldn't resist correcting him, even during a serious conversation. "I love you too Swift, and will never willingly jeopardise what we have." She lifted her hand and cradled his cheek.

Swift kissed his young wife, then rested his cheek against hers. "Or her," he agreed with a smile.
