Quit Fighting It

Description: Trellyn and Ednan sneak away together and Trellyn gets a surprise.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 11, day 15 of Turn 4

"Wow." Trellyn tried to get her breathing under control, but she knew
she had no control over her racing heart. She clutched at Ednan's
bare chest, slick with sweat, and gave herself a few moments snuggled
against him.

Ednan kept his eyes closed, savoring the moment. The scent of her
sweat, the tickling of her hair against his face, the weight and warmth
of her body against his.

"Do you want to meet again tomorrow?" When they'd first started
sneaking around to be together after Carry's flight, she'd been so
worried somebody would find them. It was easier than she had thought
though, and they had been meeting more and more frequently of late.

"I'm not sure," Ednan said, bit annoyed that she had to break the
silence. Couldn't she just be quiet and let the moment linger bit
longer. "I have some exams coming, I really should be studying."

Trellyn smiled, he was always the studious apprentice, "Surely you'll
need a break?" she teased as her fingertips traced the lines of his
body.

"If you keep going like that, I sure do," the young man muttered.

She let her hand slide lower to taunt, "You can stop me whenever you want."

"I'm not sure if I want or can't" Ednan said and opened his eyes to
look at her.

Trellyn's hand stilled as she looked back at him, "Is everything okay?
You seem... I don't know, a little distant tonight."

"I'm sorry, Trellyn. It's just..." he sighed and closed his eyes
again. "I know we are doing wrong, but I just can't stay away from
you," he whispered. She was journeyman, he was apprentice. If anybody
found out, their careers as dophineers were over.

Trellyn frowned, she'd had the same argument over and over again in
her head, but after Carry's flight she decided to just quit fighting
it. "It's not _wrong_ for us to be together, it's just stupid rules.
In another turn or two, you'll make journeyman and then we won't have
to hide it anymore."

"I know, love. But I just can't help but worry," Ednan said and
shrugged helplessly. He wanted to be reassured by her words.

"We're careful not to be seen and we don't tell anyone." she
reasoned, "Staying away from each other didn't exactly work out, so I
don't see another choice."

"But what if... ah, never mind," Ednan started but then stopped
himself. Why spoil the beautiful moment with worries. He just pulled
her even close.

Trellyn was glad he wanted to drop it, she just wanted to enjoy the
small time they had together. Her mind wandered briefly to Carry to
check on the little gold's activity. "Oh, that little sneak." she
exclaimed aloud.

"What? What's wrong?" alarmed Ednan asked.

She grinned and shook her head, "Nothing's wrong, Carry just decided
to run off while I was distracted and lay her clutch. She never lets
me see, it's so frustrating!"

"She's laying eggs? That's wonderful!" Ednan said and kissed her. "You
know, after the eggs are hardened, could I have one?" he asked on a
whim. "It would nice to have a firelizard. I always envied my brother
of his. Besides, I could train it to carry messages to you. People
might start to wonder if Carry is always visiting me."

Trellyn laughed, "You don't have to convince me, I was going to offer
you one anyways." She always kept two or three for herself to give to
friends or use as trade before giving the rest to the Hall.

"Thank you, darling," Ednan replied.

"My pleasure." she added with a purr.
