Hot, so very very hot. Trellyn knew what it meant, she'd been through a couple mating flights with her gold firelizard by now, so she'd had a pretty good idea it was coming. She just hated this aspect of the partnership. She'd talked to a few friends about their firelizard flights, and some had played it off like it was nothing to worry about.
Others had seemed more understanding though, their skin crawled too.
They felt that rush of raw sexuality, and that need to release it.

When she was at Topaz, she'd learned to control her emotions during Carry's flights. She locked herself in her quarters and waited it out.
She could dispell that pent up need on her own, and didn't have to involve anyone else, unlike her first flight experience that caught her unawares and with Ednan. That's what she would do now. She had felt Carry start diving for fish as she left the dining cavern after a late lunch. Everyone would be in afternoon classes by now, all she had to do was make it through the empty corridors and she should have the journeywoman quarters she shared all to herself. She felt Carry launch into the air and could sense several firelizards give chase. She had to hurry, the flight wouldn't last long.

Ednan was taking the records back to the archives for their journeyman-teacher, when he spotted Trellyn. A part of him wanted to turn around and pretend he didn't see her, while other part yearned to talk to her, hear her voice, feel her touch. **Darn**, he couldn't help it. "Hey Trellyn," he greeted softly.

"Ednan!" What was he doing here? How did he know that this was happening? Was he offering himself to help? No, he wouldn't know, and even if he did, she couldn't give in and allow herself to be with him again. He was an apprentice and she was a journeywoman, they weren't allowed to be together, and that's just the way it was. "I can't talk now." she mumbled as she brushed past him hurriedly. The touch of their arms were electric but she used every last ounce of will power she had to ignore it.

Ednan stared behind her, his mouth opened with surprise. "Well, wasn't that rude?" he muttered to himself and snapped his mouth shut. He couldn't feel but insulted and hurt. Didn't he mean anything to her anymore?

She heard him say something, but wasn't paying attention. She pressed her arm against the wall of the corridor and forced her body to follow it, but Carry was in the sky, soaring across the coast, and she could feel that she would choose a worthy mate soon. Why was this so hard!

"Eh, Trellyn?" Ednan asked with puzzled tone. She sure was acting strange!

"Ednan just go away." Was he following her? She couldn't talk to him now, not _him_. She couldn't get herself under control if he was near her.

"Are you all right? You look... distressed?" Ednan asked, concerned by her behavior. Was she ill? He reached to touch her arm.

She turned and pulled away from him. "Ednan, it's Carry, she's..."
why did he have to look at her that way, why did he have to look at her at all! She had told herself that it was over, that she could live without him. Now she wasn't so sure, he was here with her right now and she wanted him so badly! She reached out and kissed him, again and again, she clung to him and muttered in between kisses, "I'm sorry... I need to... I want you... please..."

"Carry, your firelizard?" Ednan asked. Shards, she could kindle a blaze within him! He could only respond to her need with one of his own.

Carry had chosen her mate, now so would Trellyn. She kissed him over and over, running her hands through his hair and across his chest.
This was so much better than dealing with it alone. "Come on." she grabbed his hand and pulled him to the end of the cooridor where they could hide in one of the equipment rooms.

What option Ednan had but follow her? It was like dream come true.
