B'ram

B'ram

B'ram had been rather surprised when Trae had turned away from him after their loving. She usually wrapped herself around him, nuzzling his neck and kissing him softly. It was just something Trae did. But she had been acting strange the whole night. Usually she was as into his love-making as he was, but she had seemed to fade in and out, as if for a moment she had lost interest and then suddenly remembered again why she was there. She had assured him that she's was fine, that she was enjoying it, but even while he was trying some of his best moves her interest ebbed and flowed. And now she had turned her back to him.

He was frustrated with himself on several levels - that perhaps he had tried too hard, perhaps she didn't like his best moves, that perhaps he had said or done something to offend her at some point, and he couldn't help but wonder if it wasn't just a little girlish to be worried when she turned away. Finally he just couldn't handle the silence. B'ram rolled over and wrapped an arm around her, pulling her closer against him. "Is there... something wrong?" Shards, what an awkward question!

Traelyn closed her eyes as she felt his skin slide against hers, and while her body reacted to the sensual feel, her mood did not. Shaking her head, she threaded her fingers through his--to reassure him....to lie to him. "No," she murmured softly, keeping her face turned from his, and her eyes shut. Within, she silently berated herself for behaving like this. So her cycle was late--so what? Shards, it really was nothing to get so worked up over. This kind of thing happened to women all the time. She shouldn't dwell on it--especially since B'ram had noticed her feigned interest...and rather passive response. Being her lover for as long as he had been, he knew her intimately both in the bed and out of it, and she knew he wouldn't take her simple "no" for an answer. Not him...not with her. Her grip tightened slightly on his, thumb tracing his knuckle, hoping her touches would distract him from interrogating her.

She was lying. He knew she was. Something wasn't right. "You know I could try something different next time, if you like."

Shards, he wasn't going to let her off the hook. Now she had to assuage his deflated ego since he thought it was about _him_. **It very well could be....** No. No. Firmly stomping down on that faint whisper of doubt, Traelyn ran her hand up his arm. "You know I'm all for experimentation, B'ram." She let a coy, wry note enter her tone as she shifted against him. Maybe this would convince him. "But really, there was nothing wrong with this last." She allowed one eye to slit open as she glanced over her shoulder at him.

Her avoiding the question was just making it all the more frustrating. There were no secrets between them. "Then what was it, Trae?"

If she told him she was having a "bad day" he'd want to know why, and then she'd have to make up even more lies to cover herself. And she certainly wasn't going to discuss what was really on her mind with him.... Shards.
**Stop thinking.** Shaking her head, she quickly grabbed on to an inkling of an idea and decided to run with it. "I had a fight with U'kaiah." It was shameful, the way she was manipulating B'ram's weakness like this, but how else could she get him to stop?

"Oh." B'ram didn't know how to feel about that. On one hand he felt a kind of cruel satisfaction at the thought of her being that upset with her bronzerider. On the other, he felt rather jealous that she had been thinking of him while B'ram had been making love to her.

Traelyn let the silence stretch between them. If she started babbling about her supposed fight, he'd know she was lying, especially since she had been so hesitant to speak of it. Better to wait him out, and hope he'd change the subject.

Lucky for her, B'ram didn't want to hear any more about her relationship with the bronzerider than absolutely necessary. Instead he wrapped his arms tighter around her in an almost possessive embrace. When she was with him, he didn't want her thinking of that other man. If he had his way...

She felt his hand cup her stomach, sliding down past her navel, and she shivered slightly, wondering if there was life growing there. And if there was....Faranth, who was the father? Her eyes snapped open, anxiety squeezing her heart. Shards and shells, she needed to stop dwelling on it. She had to. Her worry was strong enough that it was rousing Nyith from sleep. Trying desperately to quell her tumultuous thoughts, Traelyn shifted, turning in his arms, hooking one smooth leg over his hip, bringing her closer up against him, lips burying themselves in the hollow of his throat. And then she began to kiss him there, tongue tracing his skin, tasting the salt of his drying perspiration.

She wouldn't think about the "what ifs" now. For now, she'd completely lose herself in sensation. But later.....
