M'yex waited quietly in the back of the room. He had been wanting to talk to the werylingmaster third. Being a greenrider had never been something M'yex had expected. He wanted to see what advice the other greenrider had. He didn't want to hurt his green and he was also nervous of flying with her when the time came. She was smaller than many of the other greens from the clutch and he didn't want her to strian her wings with him riding her.
"Um, E'near sir?" He called out tentively to the greenrider after everybody had left.
"Yes M'yex? Do you have something you want to ask?" E'naer asked with kind tone. He was gathering up his hides after the class and he gestured the boy to come closer. Weyrlings often seek him out after the classes to ask private questions.
M'yex took a deep breath and walked forward. "I was just wondering, well you see, I'm worried about Enyth. She seems so much smaller than the other greens and I'm worried about flying with her. I know our first time is coming and I'm worried my weight might hurt her." He looked down at his feet. "And I was wondering if you could talk to me about being a male greenrider.
I hadn't thought of impressing green and I..."
"Of course," E'naer said with understanding. He gestured towards chairs. "We better sit down..."
M'yex sat. He was still a bit nervous but he could feel the love radiating from his green. He absently pushed back a wayword bit of hair. most of his wheat colored hair was carefuly pulled back but it did have bits that strayed. He turned eyes the shade of the blue green ocean on teh Weyrling master third.
E'naer pulled his chair so he faced the young man. "Let's adress the weigh issue first. Firstly, Enyth is in stage where she grows fast. She might seem small to you now, too small to carry you, but in few months, she is much, much larger. During your first flights, you won't be on her back long, so she will get used to your weight gradually. Secondly, dragons are far more stronger than you might think. Even a small, fullgrown green can take a passanger or two besides her rider. Thirdly, dragons can carry as much weight as they think they can. If Enyth thinks she is ready carry you, she _is_. Listen to her and you won't hurt her."
M'yex sighed in relief. "I just don't want to hurt her. I never thought I could love anyone so much. She is like the most precious thing in my life."
"That's how it should be," E'naer said approvingly.
"I never thought I'd impress. Then she came along. I was thinking I would end up with a blue or brown. I never expected such a perfect green. I don't even know how a greenrider should act." He looked into E'near's eyes as if looking for the answer in them.
"Just be yourself. Don't force yourself into any stereotypes if that is not you. We are all individuls, no matter what color our dragon is," E'naer said. "How old are you, M'yex?" He couldn't remember all details from all the candidates, there was just too many.
"Sixteen turns." M'yex smiled. He could do that. He could be himself. That would be easy.
"In your age most men are still looking around and searching for their sexuality. It's the time of exploration. You have the advantage that you now _know_ for sure which is your sexual orientation,"
E'naer said.
"Well, I did always think some of the guys I knew looked better to me then the girls I knew. Perhaps I should have taken that as a clue." He chuckled. "That and the fact that I am often mistake for a girl."
"Well, that's often a strong hint," E'naer said merrily.
