Well, there was no turning back now – the hatchling was out of the shell. "Helping care for and heal dragons, instead of sitting in a chair darning socks? Honestly I would like nothing else better!" Aryn burst out.
Uh-oh, that might be too honest… "That is... um, if it would be all right, if uh, if it would be possible..." she amended, stammering a bit. "Do you think it would be possible?" she couldn't resist asking.
"You have to talk with the masters in guestion, both the weaver master and the master dragonhealer," E'naer adviced. "It's known to happen.
You just have to convince them that you're serious about it, that it isn't some whim."
"So maybe, do you think, starting to sit in on classes and volunteering at the dragoninfirmary might help convince them of my sincerity?" The serious look on Aryn's face certainly displayed sincerity, though she did find the idea of confronting the masters a bit daunting.
"That would certainly help," E'naer nodded.
"I might as well get started right away," she said with purpose. "If I might ask, who should I go see at the infirmary, to enquire about volunteering and figure out when the classes are? Sorry, I've asked you so much already, you must be tired of me by now!" Aryn giggled, both relieved and excited at the prospect of her new purpose.
"Just tug the sleeve of any dragonhealer who just happens to be on duty,"
E'naer said.
"Sounds easy enough! Tomorrow, first thing after drills, I'll do just that!" Though the conversation had begun with Aryn torn by worry and guilt, it seemed to have turned into a new opportunity giving her a renewed sense of responsibility and promise. Although... she still had one more thing to check, just to be sure.
"Or... should we lay off drills for a while too?" No matter how eager she was at the new prospect, Viyanth's well-being was still her first concern.
Especially if she was going to be helping with injured dragons, she'd need to be a good example. Erring on the side of caution and trusting in her elders' experience would be a good habit to develop, she decided, to combat her natural headstrong tendencies.
"Listen to your life-mate. She will tell if she is able to take part to the drills or if she should rest. Who's your wingleader? I'll send him a note of Viyanth's condition, so you don't have to explain why are you sitting out this or that drill, " E'near replied. "Most important thing is not to overstrain her wing."
Aryn nodded emphatically, heartened at this news.
"And yes, I would be most grateful, if you wouldn't mind passing the message on to Kapera. She is quite the taskmaster, though it's good for Sienna Wing," Aryn rushed to add, "it makes it a little... intimidating, to approach her sometimes. The recommendation would carry much more weight coming from you personally, an experienced dragonhealer."
"I'll send Kapera a word," E'naer promised.
**And you'll have to be _honest_ with me, Miss Viyanth, if you feel it pulling or tiring! No being the heroine, trying to push too fast or too far this time, or we'll really be stuck on the ground!** To soften her scolding she added, **There will be plenty of swimming though! And maybe, if things go right, we'll have a new job - helping other dragons to heal - that we could do _together_, what do you think of that?"
}:I think it would bring much vitality:{ Viyanth trumpeted her approval.
Aryn's laugh was again full of her natural joie de vivre. **To us _and_ to the infirmary, Iet's hope!**
She turned her focus back her kindly mentor. "Sir, please accept my sincere gratitude for your sound advice... and your encouragement. I've always been able to depend on you for those things... It means so much to have doors opened instead of slammed shut as they were when I was young and Holdbound."
"You're welcome, Aryn. I'm always happy to help," E'naer replied, amused by her euthusiasm.
