Description: Treya is forced out of her self imposed seclusion to talk to K'mai
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 17 of Turn 4
"Hello there, Treya!" K'mai called as Sebeth waded into the lake next to Cenith.
"Oh, K'mai, hi." Treya glanced over her shoulder as she continued to scrub the unco-operative green. **Please hold still, it won't take much longer, I promise.**
}:Fine:{ Cenith replied, and Treya could almost see the mental shrug the green had given her.
**I don't know what I've done to deserve this.** she stood back and looked closely at her lifemate, the colour didn't seem to have altered, so surely it couldn't be her time to rise, could it, she pondered.
Turning she looked across to where the other rider and his dragon were beginning to wash. "K'mai! Does she look like she's ready to rise?" she asked, feeling like a fool, but prepared for it anyway.
**What do you think?** he asked his dragon.
Sebeth looked the green over. }:Not yet.:{ "Sebeth says she doesn't look ready yet," K'mai relayed.
"I didn't think so, but I can't understand why she's so moody. It was all I could think of." she shook her head, and turned back to the recalcitrant green.
}:I could have told you I wasn't ready:{ Cenith said sulkily.
**Then what's wrong?**
}:Nothing, I just want to get bathed and go and sun myself in what little warmth is still coming down onto the heights:{ with a shake of her great head, Cenith splashed her rider with water.
"I don't know what I've done, and she's not saying." Treya turned back to K'mai, "What do you do when your 'mate has a quiet tantrum, or is it just mine that does it?"
He shrugged. "Sebeth usually doesn't get annoyed with me unless I leave him alone too long."
"I haven't done that." Treya shook her head, "And I can't honestly say I have done anything else to put her offside. Not lately anyway, I've been behaving myself." she admitted with a self deprecating smile.
"Have you chased all the other handsome men away already?" K'mai teased, reaching down for another handful of sweetsand.
She shrugged, not giving acknowledgment to the teasing tone, "To tell you the truth, I have been keeping to myself a lot lately." she admitted, not willing to touch on the tenderness she still felt whenever she saw C'pouk around the Weyr. She didn't know where their relationship had gone wrong, but the distance between them now, still hurt.
"That's a shame." He stopped scrubbing to look at her. "I may be busy, but I'm always around, if you need someone to talk to or cheer you up."
"Thank you, K'mai." she smiled fondly at the bluerider. "Sometimes all I want is someone to talk to, and other times someone who will hold me, and just be there, but I haven't had much luck with either, lately."
}:You have spent too much time alone:{ an admonishing tone echoed in her mind from Cenith as the green nudged her rider a little. }:I want my rider back - the happy rider:{ "I can provide both, though maybe not quite the kind of holding you're looking for," he said. K'mai could provide friendship, but he knew Treya longed for romance.
She gave him a grateful smile, "Thank you K'mai, I know you mean well, but you're right, the kind of holding you could give me would be lovely, but still leave us both wishing for more." She continued scrubbing Cenith's hide, watching as the green gleamed warmly. "How are you doing lately, anyway K'mai?" she asked, over her shoulder.
"I'm good." He went back to scrubbing his blue. "I had a bit too much to drink last rest day at W'del's party. I woke up with a headache and a very surprised Candidate in my bed." He laughed.
"That's not your usual habit, it must have been a good party." she laughed, finding it hard to keep a straight face. "You planning on seeing him again?"
"That depends on if he can get over the shock that he's not going to be Impressing bronze." K'mai laughed again as Sebeth leaned into the brush.
"Oh no, not another one." she rolled her eyes, and stifled a giggle. It really did do her good to get out and socialise, much as she didn't want to.
}:I told you:{ Cenith said warmly. }:It's no use sitting in your weyr and hoping he'll come around:{
**Oh hush, you.** she prodded the green affectionately. **This is working - for now, but I can't tote K'mai everywhere with me.**
"It's amazing just how many supposedly bronze riders Impress green. I'm not sure who is more shocked half the time, them or their families back home." she shook her head. "Where you one as well, K'mai; thought you'd Impress brown or bronze, until Sebeth chose you?"
"Oh, no. When I was really young I wanted bronze. Nearly every weyr boy does. But as soon as I started to realize boys were just as cute as girls, I knew my chance for bronze went right off the ledge." He asked Sebeth to move forward a bit so he could scrub another part of his flank and still stay close to Treya. "I don't blame the Hold and Hall bred boys for dreaming of bronze. It's an ideal. They don't know any better."
"But blue's are more fun, you think?" she asked, a flash of amusement in her eyes for the first time in a sevenday or more.
K'mai threw his head back and laughed. "Of course they are!" He slapped his dragon affectionately.
"I'd have to admit, blue riders appear to be, I haven't laughed like this in a while. Thanks K'mai."
He took a bow. "Just doing my part to make the Weyr a happier place."
"Well I thank you, you have certainly fulfilled your part today."
"You're welcome, Treya."
