"You naugty bluerider! I'm on duty, can't you wait 'till evening?"
E'naer scolded with a husky laughter.

"Aaw, but it's a such a long time," the bluerider pouted, his hands all over the greenrider.

"Look, I'm working. I'm supposed to meet some new candidates. We'll see tonight, I promise," E'naer replied, kissed him passionately and then pushed him gently away.

"Fine, see you then," the bluerider said, giving E'naer big eyes.
E'naer couldn't resist slapping his bottom when he turned away to leave and the bluerider gave him a hot look over his shoulder.

E'naer gave a wistful sigh, turned towards his office and noticed that the candidate was already waiting for him. He straighted his tunic and tried to look professional and non-chalant instead of...aroused.

Lazarew had wanted to turn and run and get as far away from the pair as he possibly could. Those men were sharding _kissing_! In public! Just the thought made his stomach churn! He had heard stories, but to actually _see_ it... He just wanted to put as much distance between himself and those perverts as possible, but he didn't know the Weyr yet.
The only direction he knew he wouldn't get lost going was back the way he came - right past the pair! And so he had stayed rooted to the spot, knowing it was rude to stare and yet not able to take his eyes off of them. It had been like the time one of his neighbor's ovine had birthed a lamb with two heads. Everyone couldn't help but come out and stare at the poor thing because it was just so... unnatural.

_This_ was the Weyrlingmaster's Third? Did the Weyrlingmaster _know_
what that man was just doing?!

When his eye accidentally caught the greenriders he looked down at the floor quickly, his face bruning crimson red, though he didn't know why.
If anyone should be ashamed, it should be _him_!

E'naer noticed him. "You're Lazarew, righ? Let's get into my office to have a little chat. No need to worry about it. I'm just trying to lear all you candidates. After all, if you impress, I'll be teaching you.
Well, one of the people teaching you."

"Are you sure this isn't a bad time?" Lazarew asked, his eyes still fixed on the cold stone floor rather than look the greenrider in the face.

"Of course it is, " E'naer said, bit puzzled. Then it dawned to him.
"Oh you mean, him," he nodded after the departed bluerider. "He was a distraction from my duties. I try to keep it outside my work hours, but things just happen some times."

Well, they certainly hadn't been the first homosexual pairing the Candidate had seen since coming to the Weyr, but he sure wished that they would take it somewhere a bit more private so he didn't have to _watch_ it! "Yes sir," he nodded, not knowing what else he possible could say.

"So, how are you settling into the weyr? This will be your first hatching, right?" E'naer asked.

"Yes sir. It's my first." His first for many things.

"Don't be to concerned if you don't impress at the first time. There's always the next one," E'naer grinned.

"Yes, someone told me it can take Turns." Those sharding bastards who thought he was no better than an ovine.

"And sometimes it only takes thr first time," E'naer said, trying to cheer him up. The boy looked rather glum to him.

Well, he inteded to Impress the first time. Wouldn't that show up his father! But it was a good idea fo have a back up plan. "I was told that if I don't Impress I can take up a craft. Is that true? Can anyone craft here?"

"Yes, you can. We have almost all crafts presented here at the Weyr.
We also have plenty of jobs outside crafts," E'naer said. "The headwoman is the person to turn to if you concider a craft," he continued.

"What kinds of crafts can we do?"

"Pretty much everything except dolphineering and seacrafting.
There are healers, harpers, beastcrafters, weavers, tanners, bakers, masons, smiths, technicians ... you name it," E'naer replied.

There were so many to choose from. "Which one is the best?"

"That depends on you. What are you interested in?"

"The hardest one." The one that he could shove right in his father's face. The one that would prove his parents and to himself that he was always meant to be something more.

"What do you mean by hardest? The physically most demanding or the one that needs most brains? Usually people choose craft that interest them. I became first healer and then dragonhealer because I wanted to make people and dragon feel better," E'naer asked.

"Anything that doesn't involve an animal interests me. I want a challenge. Which one is the biggest challenge?"

"I would say technician's craft. I don't understand a whit of what they are doing but I admire their skill to make machines work."

"Technician..." A machine was about as far from an ovine you could get.
Those stupid beasts just ate, slept, mated, and wandered off. Yeah, a machine would certainly beat an ovine any day. "And if I Impress...
Can I still be a technician? Can I be _both_?"

"In theory, yes, but in practise, it's hard to combine craft studies and the wing duties when the Thread is Falling," E'naer warned him.

Lazarew thought about that a moment. "So... It's an even bigger challenge to be both?"

E'naer groaned inwards. "Yes, probably," he replied curtly. He made himself a mental note of keep an eye on this lad. He seemed to have issues on open sexuality and keen on getting himself neck deep with work, if he impressed and was serious about picking up a craft too.

But the candidate was already deep into his own thoughts. **I will be both. And I'll be the _best_ at both! I'll show my Da. I'll show _everyone_.**
