Whose Side Are You On?

Writers: Cali, Eimi
Date Posted: 14th December 2007

Characters: B'vin, D'cal
Description: B'vin and D'cal catch up over a brew
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 4 of Turn 4

"Finally," B'vin exclaimed as he found D'cal finishing his dinner and sat down across from him. "I tell you, this new batch of weyrlings are more needy than the last group... and that's saying alot. I thought I'd miss you all together." "Aosorath passed along the message of where you were. You've got a job to do. I can understand that." D'cal passed over the mug of ale he had poured for his friend. It had been sitting there long enough most the bubbles had escaped. "Sorry, its a little flat. If you like you can get a new one and I'll drink it."

B'vin shook his head and grabbed at the mug, gulping down half of it before sitting it back down. "Nah, it's drinkable." "At least none of the alcohol has escaped," the bluerider assured him with a wink.

"Doesn't appear so." B'vin said as he licked his upper lip to remove the foam. "So what have you been up to today?" "The usual," D'cal shrugged. "Drills. Drills. Oh, and then I had another drill." Seriously, did J'darin ever _stop_?

The greenrider shook his head and grunted. "Don't brag. I had baths to supervise and another lecture to give. I swear I'm going to go sharding crazy on Weyrlingstaff. I'd put in another request for transfer back to the regular wings, but it'd probably just get me another Turn with the weyrlings!" D'cal stared straight into the mug of ale paused just shy of his lips. "Are you sure you're ready for that?" B'vin's injuries had been extensive.

"Serenth has risen hasn't she? That's all that the dragonhealer was waiting for." he reminded him, "And you know I've been keeping up with you with our swims. J'darin just won't give me a chance." "Big shock there. You know how he feels about us 'lesser colors'." D'cal would never forgive him for eluding that blues and greens were somehow inferior to bronzes and browns. The prick.

B'vin nodded, "I know, but Serenth is one of the best greens out there, and if he'd just put us in a _real_ wing we'd prove it!" "Yeah, but are you sure you're ready? I mean..." The bluerider tapped his skull with a finger. "Really ready?"

The greenrider downed the last of his ale and slammed the mug down on the table. "Whose side are you on? You sound like you _want_ me stuck with those weyrlings!"

D'cal winced as the table jerked under the force of the greenrider's blow. Shards, what could he say to that? Yes, he did want his friend stuck safely on the ground, just like he wanted Dyaera to never fly Thread again. He had already seen what Thread had done to their bodies, to their spirits... How could he tell B'vin the thought of something happening to them terrified him more than facing Thread himself. D'cal didn't want him to be ready. "Fine. Just forget I said anything."

B'vin thought about arguing it, the whole discussion had worked him up, but he didn't want to fight with D'cal... not really. "Fine," he huffed and added as he slid his mug over, "I'd forget alot faster with a full cup."

The bluerider drained his cup and reached for his friends. "Fine." At least they could drop it for now.

"Fine." he muttered to himself as he watched D'cal walk away. So much for his friend making him feel better about his day!
