B'ram

B'ram

}:She wants to know if you're alone.:{ "I told you! I told you she would come!" B'ram cried triumphantly. **I _know_ her. That bronzerider, she might care about him, but _I_ am the one who really knows her...** And one thing the brownrider knew for sure was that Trae would crack under the pressure if he just played it cool. He knew she couldn't let go of what they had that easily. She might have taken her time pretending it was all so sweet and new, but B'ram knew there were darker places in that goldrider's soul that just cried out for what he and only he could give her. "Tell her I'm busy now. Tell her to come in a candlemark."

}:But you're not busy now...:{ his brown huffed.

"She doesn't know that." **Let her think I'm with someone. One thing a gold can't stand is competition...**

And he was right--to an extent. When Nyith relayed Girifith's message back to Traelyn, a line creased her brow as a slight frown pulled at her lips. **All right.** And it irked her that she should feel jealous--jealous! Shards, that was laughable. She certainly had no right to be, especially with the way things have been the last few days. Her expression smoothed as U'kaiah's face flashed before her eyes. Yes...she really had no right to be jealous. B'ram had truly been the last man on her mind.

Until recently.

Traelyn had been honest with herself from the start: she couldn't give B'ram up. Yes, U'kaiah was now a part of her life--a wonderful, exciting, sweet part of her life--but she just couldn't stay away from the brownrider. It was frustrating. She didn't _want_ to keep wanting B'ram, but their relationship had evolved into something else now. Something more. It wasn't a relationship normal couples shared--like the one budding between she and U'kaiah--but it was a relationship all the same. One that went beyond casual feelings, and casual sex. And she couldn't drop it--him. She just couldn't.

But maybe he didn't feel the same way she did. That sudden inkling of possibility made her go cold. Then, shaking her head, she quickly dismissed it. No. He couldn't give her up either. She knew he couldn't.
He might be angry with her for the defiant way she'd treated him the night of the Weyr's celebration, but they had always managed to work through anger before, whether it was through snarling and yelling, or taking a rough tumble in the bed, or both. And really, he had no right to be angry with her, or to even challenge her.

Just like she had no right to be jealous. But that didn't mean she wasn't.

Sharding man.

"Act casual," B'ram whispered to himself as he retied the towel around his waist. Taking another off his shoulder he began running it through his hair as he turned the nob and opened the door for her. "Hey, Trae. Come on in. Sorry about that."

Traelyn had been very ready for a clash of tempers as soon as their eyes met, but instead was taken aback by his airy attitude. The snippy little barbs she'd been preparing to aim at him died on her lips as she stared at him. She'd been thrown off her guard, and it was sharding unnerving. Just what was he playing at? She had thought she'd known him better than this.

Baring her teeth in what she hoped was a smile, Traelyn came inside, brushing lightly against him as she did so. "Been busy?" She couldn't help the sarcasm as she turned around to look at him--at his wet hair, bare chest, the towel knotted at his waist that hardly concealed.

"Well, you know," he shrugged, "I wasn't exactly expecting to see you any time soon." It was amazing just how easily the lies flowed from his lips.

A pale brow rose. He didn't deny it. Typical. "Oh?"

"Well, yeah. I saw the way you looked at that bronzerider. And I have to say, at first I was... Well, more than a little upset, but now..." He shrugged again, as if he didn't really know what to say. "I think we always knew that eventually one of us would have to start moving on. That what we had would have to end at some point. I suppose it's time."

She snorted derisively, eyes narrowing as she shoved away that whisper of fear. He didn't mean it. He was playing with her--and it was a nasty game. "Stop it."

"What do you want from me, Trae? You found what you wanted. It was written all over your face when you looked at him. What more do you want?"

The fear was growing. Shards! He just couldn't be serious. And yet he wasn't making a move towards her...she couldn't read his eyes. Damn it! She needed to read him, she needed to understand. **Why, Trae? If he _is_ serious, this is your chance to finally break the warped cycle. You can finally just walk away.** Temper flashed in her dark eyes.

She didn't want to walk away. And she hated herself for that. This was her chance, and she couldn't do it!

Slowly she moved towards him. "You're not serious."

"What if I am?" He wanted her to come close. He wanted to her know deep down in the most twisted parts of her soul that she could play the happy couple with that bronzerider, but he would never be able to satisfy her completely. No matter how she felt for him, not matter how B'ram felt for Eleada, it would just never be enough. They were two broken halves that somehow had made a whole. No one else could fit her like he did.

"Prove it then." Her expression was haughty, defiant--her pride and growing anger hiding her fear. There was a predatory sway to her hips as stepped closer, the fire of passion leaping high within. "Prove it," she hissed when they were face to face, bodies almost touching, eyes locked.

He met her eye, determined not to show the slightest weakness. "Walk away, Trae. You don't need me anymore."

**Do it,**--but that voice was too faint. And suddenly she found herself kissing him hard instead, bodies pressing together, hips aligning of their own accord. Something inside of her snarled in triumph when he didn't push her away. Her hands slipped to his waist as her tongue slid inside his mouth, a heated challenge, a sweet temptation.

As he reached out for her to pull her even closer, welcoming her kiss with equal relief, B'ram couldn't help but feel the victory was his. She would not soon forget that she had her chance, and she chose not to walk away. Just as he knew she wouldn't - as he knew she _couldn't_, not any more than he.

Traelyn sensed his sudden capitulation. Shards, he hadn't given _in_ to her, he'd _let her in_. Fury boiled to the surface. He'd been playing her all along--the sharding bastard! How dare he make her prove herself! How _dare_ he! Her nails pierced the skin of his back as she tore her mouth away from his, eyes glittering. "You're a wherry's ass, B'ram," she breathed against his lips, scraping her teeth along his flesh. "You hear me?"

"I know I'm a wherry's ass," he murmured, reaching up to dig his fingers into her hair. "But I'm still _your_ wherry's ass."
