Deciding to check in with Jyramikah, J'darin asked Hasaarth to find out where she was and if he could disturb her.
With a faint sigh, he thought of Traelyn, all alone at Dragonsfall, and decided that both his Weyrwomen needed as much support as he could give them. He was glad he had visited her yesterday.
**Where is Ikoladith's rider, Hasaarth? And is she busy? **
Jyramikah was trying to decide how they were going to get through the next sevendays without losing anymore lives than they already had. She had a map spread out on her desk and was surveying it when Ikoladith relayed the message from J'darin. She could use his help in this and bounce some ideas off of him. She had just come from a meeting with the headwoman and things weren't looking good.
**Tell him that he can disturb me and that I am in my office. I can come to him if he needs me to, but I do have something he can help me with here in the office.**
The message was received and J'darin nodded, changing direction to head to Jyramikah's office. The lower weyrs and offices were beginning to be free of debris and things, but things just didn't look the same.
Pinched around the eyes, he knocked once on her door, interested to see what he could help her with, and more than glad to offer. "Jyra?
Hello there, lady." He smiled wearily at her, brightening when he saw the project spread out in front of her.
"J'darin! Have you slept at all?" she asked alarmed at how weary he looked.
He needed to take care of himself so that they could both take care of the Weyr. Her worry for him overshadowed her excitement at a possible solution to the food shortage for a moment.
His smile warmed and he attempted to look less haggard. It was quite comical and he would end up laughing helplessly. "I've slept some, but I wake up worried and thinking of the next thing, and the next thing.
But you look like you're in the middle of something good! I could use some good news, Jyra." He pulled up a chair next to her, his smile almost boyish.
"I was surveying the areas to see where we could send out gathering parties to replenish our food supply. There's some areas that aren't claimed at all by holders so they would be the best place to start. Have we contacted Emerald Falls to see if they can be of any assistance?"
J'darin nodded to her question. "I have a meeting with the new Lord Holder scheduled later today, as it happens. I hope that he will help us. He seems an alright sort."
He peered with interest at her notes and nodded. "We really do need to gather more food. It will be hard to replace all we lost."
"It can be done, it has to be done. We can't lose anymore lives than we have already. What do you think about sending out riders to gather fish?" she asked even though she was not a fan of fish. It was a source of food that could be gathered from several areas and they did have the advantage of the dolphin hall being so close.
J'darin's nose wrinkled briefly, but they had no choice. "Absolutely, all the fish we can find, Jyra. That would really help. Perhaps the dragons could even eat enough large fish to help us on a meal or two for them, as well."
}:I like fishing. I will eat fish. They are slippery though and hard to catch.:{ Hasaarth offered helpfully, making J'darin laugh, even in spite of the dire situation of the Weyr.
"You're doing very well, Jyra." He said quietly, resting his hand atop hers for a moment. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. I seem to be good at filling in the gaps during crisises as this is at least the third time I've done it in only a few turns. We'll get through. We always have in the past. Ylishan's getting the weyrfolk scheduled for fishing duties and I'll see about the riders." she replied.
J'darin peered at her for a moment, wondering if she meant anything by that, and he finally said quietly, "You're good all the time, Jyra, not just in a crisis." he half closed his eyes and sighed then, musing aloud, "The third time in as many turns...." He shook his head.
"We've had our fair share of troubles, haven't we? More than, even."
"Some would say so. I suppose it's bound to happen from time to time.
Maybe we've had our share for a while." she replied smiling briefly at his compliment. She hadn't meant to sound so pititful, but today she seemed to be unable to shake the feeling. The one that the told her the only time she seemed to excel was when there was a crisis that pushed her into doing more than she normally was able to.
J'darin nodded in sincere agreement. "Let us hope we get some recovery time from these tragedies, or we'll never be at full strength again."
"Can I help you with anything else, Jyramikah?" he smiled a bit at her, wanting to leave her feeling happy.
"I think that's everything for now. You don't mind me asking riders to help with the gathering parties and fishing as they could move so much faster with dragons,do you? Perhaps some of the weyrlings could help even?" she replied glad to have something to focus on instead of simply worrying about what they were going to do if they couldn't get enough food.
"Take riders, and especially Weyrlings who can go /between/ alone, of course, although check with Y'sani to make sure he's alright with it.
Everyone is working double right now anyway, might as well pull some of them from cleanup duty to food gathering." He summoned his strength and nodded decisively. "We'll be fine, Jyramikah. We have to be."
"I'll do that. We will, I know it." she echoed his words adding her own determination and belief to the words.
}:The Weyr will survive.:{ Ikoladith remarked having taken an interest in her rider's conversation.
