Mosler had just left to return to the Dolphin Hall, and Traelyn had gone to
the Lower Caverns to find some klah. They had said they would meet in his
office in a couple of candlemarks. In the meantime, he needed to go wake up Maurgen and make sure she was safe.
He knew she was sleeping, but he had woken her up on previous evenings. He
sent Oak first, and waited until the little brown flit sent him a picture of his love awake and confused, but seemingly aware he was on the way.
When he arrived, Maurgen was perched on the edge of her bed with Oak in her lap, stroking the small firelizard's neck gently. "J'darin? Are you all right? I heard someone say the weather was getting terrible."
A sigh of relief escaped him as he found her, safe. He went immediately to her side and pulled her, with Oak in her lap still, close. "I'm alright so far, love. But its going to get worse before it gets better." The sun wasn't even up yet - Mosler had woken him up before dawn - but already there was rain and thunder.
He kissed her softly, glad she was up a little high and inside. "Mosler
just left; the dolphins reported a hurricane, and its headed right for us this time. No near misses like the one a few days ago."
"Do you need me to do anything?" she asked softly, sliding her arm around his waist. A bad storm meant J'darin would be in the middle of it, which was an idea she didn't much care for.
"I just need you to be safe. I can do what I have to do if I know you're safe. I think I'd like to leave Oak with you, in case you need me? Or anything. I am going to be very busy for the next several candlemarks, and if you have Oak, maybe I won't worry so much!" He smiled half heartedly at her; but in his mind he was quailing at the damage Mosler had estimated. It was _not_ going to be good.
Maurgen set the firelizard aside gently so that she could slide more firmly into J'darin's arms. "If that's what you need, then I'll stay here with Oak." She leaned down to kiss him softly, wondering how she could even consider conceding to V'lorn's demands when she had a man like J'darin. He was sweet and gentle and wanted her to be safe--and she didn't deserve him.
Oak crooned gently and curled up on the still warm bedfurs. He seemed content to stay right there too. "I don't want anything to happen to you,
my lovely Harper. Past Hasaarth, you're the most important thing in this
Weyr to me." That gave him an idea, and he thought maybe it would help her worry less, too. "Maybe you could draw some pictures of the Weyr as you know it today while you wait... I have the feeling we're going to see a different Weyr tomorrow." He confided quietly, his eyes closed.
He had no idea about V'lorn, did the Weyrleader, but he did believe that _He_ didn't deserve Maurgen. Irony at its best.
Maurgen's face grew concerned. "Is it really going to be so bad, J'darin?"
"Mosler thinks so, love. We can hope not. But the dolphins usually know." He sighed softly, not wishing to worry her more than necessary, but he could hardly hide the fact that a bad hurricane was coming ashore right here.
He smiled at her. "Don't worry, Maurgen. We'll manage. We're dragonriders, and we've a Hall full of dolphins and their partners to help us, haven't we?"
"Did you want to invite Fortien here to keep you company during the storm? Perhaps he'd like that too?"
Maurgen considered it. "Maybe I should go to his weyr. He'll be more comfortable there, and I know his joints have been bothering him. Oak could come with me."
J'darin considered that, trying to recall where Fortien's weyr was. It was an inside weyr like this one, and likely to be just as safe. "I think that will be fine, love. Just make sure you take Oak with you."
"I'd send you both to mine, but it might be less safe than yours or Fortien's!"
A very faint gleam came to his eyes and he turned her to face him. 'But we have a little while before I have to meet the others... why don't we spend it together? I haven't been spending nearly enough time with my lovely harper, and I think I need to apologize most sincerely."
She wanted to tell him to rest before the day ahead, but the slightest worry that something might happen to him had her fingers tangling in his tunic before she could stop herself. "You have to promise to send a message to me so that I know you're still all right," she said firmly as she leaned in to press her forehead against his.
He wrapped both arms around her and breathed in her scent, and the way she leaned so trustingly against him. His heart seemed to flip over in his chest several times as if he was dodging Thread.
Softly, he agreed. "I will, Maurgen. I'll call Oak long enough to tell him how things are going and how I am."
Almost a whisper. "Just promise you'll be here when I come back.."
