Description: The two greenriders talk about Maiz's transfer to the Queen's wing
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 3 of Turn 4
"The Queen's Wing, eh?" Gilsha slipped into the seat across from Maiz.
"I take it you didn't make the change just to meet guys..."
Maiz smiled, "No, that would be a stupid reason considering there aren't any men in that wing, wouldn't it? Besides... I don't really need a guy right now..."
"Yes, I surmise you've had guys aplenty," Gilsha said studying her companion carefully. "You want to go it alone then? No help on this one?"
"I have one," Maiz replied. "Do I really need more than that?" "One is more than enough," Gilsha nodded and then leaned in conspiratorially. "Is it T'nac?"
Maiz laughed. "Yup, that would be the one. I am having his baby afterall... not too many men would be happy with a girl who is having another man's child." "This is a Weyr," the other greenrider shrugged. "It happens all the time. So," Gilsha leaned a bit closer, "T'nac worked out, did he?"
"At the moment at least. There were a few rough patches, and there might still be more to come..."
Gilsha didn't seem too overly concerned. "Such is to be expected from any relationship."
"I suppose," the younger woman agreed, though the thought didn't cheer her any.
"So are you excited?" Gilsha asked as she reached for her napkin.
"About what?"
"Your baby," Gilsha chuckled. **About what?**
"Oh! That!" Maiz laughed at her original lack of understanding. Hadn't they been talking about men? "I am very, very excited! I can't wait until he or she is finally born!"
"Is T'nac excited?" Gilsha could imagine he would be. He seemed the family type. "I think so," Maiz said, a bit apprehensively. How could she explain that despite the fact that she and T'nac were together she wasn't
- Show quoted text -entirely certain what he thought about all this? He was supportive, yes. But did that mean that he really wanted it?
"All right," Gilsha sighed, dropping her piece of bread into her stew.
She could smell a story from a mile away. "Just what is going on, Maiz?"
"We broke up, or more, I broke up with him. Then he found out I was pregnant, via the rumor-mill, I didn't actually tell him. And we still weren't together, but he wanted to go to the healer appointments for the baby with me. And then I took him back. I'm just not really entirely certain if he is happy about having a baby with me now, or if he just feels like he has a responsibility."
"Well, how do you _you_ feel?" Gilsha frowned as she had to rescue the sopping piece of bread with her spoon. "About him, I mean."
Maiz bit her lower lip, a sure sign of her uncertainty. "I know it is impossible to be too perfect... but he is! He doesn't have a single flaw that I can find... and it makes me think that he must have a very big one buried somewhere."
"Who, T'nac?" Gilsha shook her head dubiously. "I'm sure he's flawed, but I if its anything it would be that he's _too_ nice. He reminds me of a little puppy. But he's a sharding hot puppy."
"Is it possible to be too nice? I'm not certain... it just makes me think that there must be something else hidden underneath all that niceness!"
Gilsha shrugged a shoulder non-commitally. "Perhaps. Who knows. All I can say is that in my time I've met some people who are nice to get something, and some who are just genuinely nice. I'm usually pretty good at spotting a faker, and... well, T'nac just doesn't strike me that way. But then again, I don't have to sleep next to him at night."
Maiz sighed, "I'm probably just being way too judgmental. There's probably nothing whatsoever wrong with him. I am just paranoid."
"Been flamed before, eh?"
"Hasn't everyone?" Maiz replied, then swiftly change the subject. "Any interesting men in your life right now?" "Alas..." Gilsha shrugged. "The only new man in my life is our new...
well, _returning_ Wingleader, U'kaiah. He seems pretty much like a typical bronzerider to me, so I certainly wouldn't call him interesting."
Just her luck, yet another male that Maiz certainly didn't want to talk about. She was still mad at U'kaiah, and studiously avoiding him whenever possible. "Maybe we should find you someone to set you up with then..."
"Noooooooo thank you," her friend chuckled. "I am not feeling much of a need for a man just yet."
"Yet? Did I miss something...?"
"Its a temporary phase I sometimes go through, but I actually prefer being on my own. Men are just so... needy."
"T'nac's not needy," Maiz said, contemplatively. "Do you think he's going to turn needy on me?"
"I don't know," Gilsha shrugged. She sure was not going to make any promises! "But he's so sweet and cute, so what if he was?"
"We have a baby coming," the greenrider stated the obvious. "Babies are needy. I really hope he doesn't turn needy, because that would just be way too much neediness for me to handle!"
"Well, after a couple months, most of that neediness will be taken care of by the fostermother. You'd have time to take care of your man then,"
her friend winked. One nice perk to living in a Weyr.
Maiz rolled her eyes, but refrained from commenting on the fact that she had no plans of giving her baby to a fostermother. It simply seemed to get her in trouble whenever she mentioned it. "He's an adult, he shouldn't need to be taken care of."
"I'm sure some of his needs wouldn't be that bad," Gilsha winked.
"We really do need to get you a man Gilsha!"
Her friend threw her head back and laughed. "Why do I need to go through all the trouble to find a man when I can live vicariously through my friends?"
"If you are going to live vicariously I hope you have other friends who are more interesting than I am!"
Gilsha reached across the table for Maiz's hand. "But you _are_
interesting to me, Maiz. And I really do hope things work with you and T'nac and the baby. You deserve to be happy." "I hope so too," Maiz agreed. Though, ever the fatalist, she doubted things could possibly turn out happily.
