N'vanik

N'vanik

N'vanik stepped into the Weyrleader's office. "You wanted to see me?" he asked in a neutral tone. He hadn't done anything lately to get yelled at for, so he wasn't on the defensive.

"Yes, come have a seat." D'wrayt replied motioning towards the chairs in front of his desk. He had wanted to make sure everything was going allright with the bronzerider since the last time they had spoke.

Sitting in the offered chair, N'vanik asked, "So, what did you want to see me for?"

"Just to make sure things are going allright."

N'vanik shrugged slightly. "Things are fine."

"Are you going to be able to work under U'kaiah?" D'wrayt asked wondering if he should move the bronzerider into his wing to prevent any problems.

"I don't have a problem with it." Although N'vanik didn't often get along with U'kaiah, he was a good Wingleader.

"That's good to hear. How is Loseth faring?" D'wrayt knew the bronzerider didn't like to talk about his personal life so he didn't bring up the situation with Talryne although he was curious as to what was going on between them if anything.

This is what the Weyrleader called him in for? Small talk? "Loseth is fine."

"I wanted to thank you for what you've done for Talryne. It's really been a help to her, but if there's anything I can do please let me know."

**I didn't do it for you, so don't thank me.** His annoyance was mixed with embarrassment, though. "Who would have thought, huh?"

"I have to admit, I was very suprised to learn that it was you she had attached herself to. You're a good man, N'vanik, even if most people can't see it."

He fought not to laugh. When Kenza things like that, part of him believed it. When D'wrayt said it, it sounded ridiculous. "Sure," was all N'vanik could manage without sounding sarcastic or laughing.

"You remind me of my daughters when I try to compliment them. What makes it sound so unbelievable coming from me? If a woman told you that would you believe her?" D'wrayt asked as he got the impression that N'vanik didn't believe him. He had gotten that response on many occassions from his two older daughters when he tried to compliment their progress as weyrlings.

N'vanik shrugged and gave him an honest answer. "Depends on the woman.
Shells, it depends on the _person_."

"I see. Thanks for stopping in and enjoy the rest of your day." D'wrayt said with a chuckle. He didn't think he was ever going to get an answer out of people for that question that would give him something to work on.

N'vanik lifted an eyebrow. "Okay," he said as he stood. Well, at least that had been short.
