Jyramikah hoped that this conversation with V'lorn might spark something inside of the man. He was so emotionally reserved that she sometimes wondered if he felt anything at all. She never let it deter her from trying to converse with him. "Good afternoon, V'lorn. How are you?" she asked with a smile.
"Good afternoon, weyrwoman," he said formally, pouring himself a mug of klah.
"How is Naoth today?" Jyra asked politely.
Small talk. V'lorn hated small talk, especially when it didn't seem to suit any immediate purpose. But she was a goldrider. He didn't want to get any complaints about him being rude. Some goldriders were real babies when it came to that sort of thing. Not that it would wound him personally, but it would prove to be such a hassle later on. Summoning a sweet smile he replied, "Just fine, thank you. And your beauty?"
"Ikoladith is fine." she replied taking a sip from her mug of klah. She had a feeling he was only humoring her because of her rank, but didn't let that bother her.
**What a relief,** he thought sarcastically. As if the whole _Weyr_
wouldn't be roused if a queen was in the least out of sorts. But it was only polite to ask. Sharding pleasantries. "And your children? Are they doing well?"
"They're growing more independent and opinionated as the turns go by, but they are well for the most part. Do you have any children of your own?"
He shrugged slightly. "I might, but we have never been introduced as yet." And he planned never to suffer through such an introduction.
"That is one thing about being a bluerider. My chances of getting a woman pregnant are cut in half."
"That is true. What do you do with your free time?" she asked still very curious about the life of this particular bluerider. She wondered if he did _anything_ outside of fighting thread, drilling with his wing, and caring for his dragon.
"I volunteer to read to small children in isolated cotholds," the bluerider replied over his mug.
"That must be interesting. Do you do that often?" she questioned wanting to know more about the bluerider. He was very intriguing and she wondered what would happen if he let his emotions show sometime.
She had to be kidding. Did she really think _he_ would waste time on filthy grubby children who would never get out of the hole in the back of /between/ that they lived in unless they were Searched! "Not nearly as often as I would like."
"That's too bad. Perhaps a program like that would help with fostering good relations between the hold and Weyr." she replied totally unaware that he wasn't being truthful with her.
"That is a dream of mine," V'lorn nodded, wondering if maybe the goldrider had been dropped on her head as a child.
Ikoladith had been listening in and asked Naoth. }:Do you and your rider really visit isolated cotholds to read to children?:{ }:We have visited cotholds,:{ Naoth answered, trying hard to remember.
Like most dragons, his memory for past events that seemed unconsequential were cloudy at best. }:I don't remember why.:{ }:I see. Thank you.:{ the gold replied before informing her rider of her conversation with Naoth.
Jyramikah was surprised when Ikoladith informed her that she didn't think that V'lorn was being truthful with her. It wasn't like the gold to distrust someone without good cause, but it sounded so plausible to her that she decided not to worry about it. "Thank you for this enlightening conversation, V'lorn. I'd love to hear more about your experiences sometime, but I have to go." she said deciding not to question his integrity.
"Well, if you have to go..." It's about time... "Have a nice day, goldrider."
"You do the same." she replied before heading towards the kitchens to arrange a basket for the picnic that she planned to take with the children on the upcoming restday.
