Daigoro carefully scooted the warm cookies off the tray and piled them up on the plate. He needed something to over it. Some kind of cloth or something... He looked through all the drawers. Nothing. Where were those little towels she used to dry the dishes? Or a napkin maybe?
Could they be in the laundry basket? He walked out into the hallway to check.
Two swirling eyes looked curiously down at the fragrant pile of cookies.
Cocking her head to the side, Fey turned her attention to the little blue sitting on the rafter beside her and chirped at him curiously.
Mulch cocked his head, as if to say he didn't know what they were any more than she did. He in turn looked at the bronze flit dozing beside him. Wort obviously would be no help. With a determined chirp, Mulch decided it was his job to investigate.
He back-winged gently onto the table. The smell was most appealing.
Digging his snout into the middle of it, he decided the warmth was even more delightful than the fragrance. With a pleased yip he flopped down right in the middle. It was better than sunning himself! He yawned contentedly as he snuggled down into it, ignoring the crunching sound he was producing.
Well, Fey was not about to let her Clutchmate take the best lounging spot in the house! After all, it was _her_ house! Mulch was just a guest! With an angry scream she winged down to the table. Wort opened an eye to try to see what the commotion was about. Fey was butting her head against Mulch's side, trying to get him to move, but the blue would have none of it. He found the spot first!
Wort decided it was time for him to investigate what all the excitement was about. Just what was so interesting that those younin's were fighting over it? The bronze glided gracefully from his perch with an authoritative chirp that silenced the other two right up. He touched his wingtip to the edge of the plate, then to one of the cookies at the edge. Now he could understand just what the fuss was about. Mulch had found the warmest spot in the whole house, and as a senior bronze, Wort decided _he_ should have it!
Unfurling his wings he beat them in a quick shooing motion, screeching at Mulch to move out of his way. The little blue didn't like the noise much, nor the spray of tiny crumbs that pelted him like bits of sand.
With protesting shrieks, he finally moved out of the way. Wort eyed Fey, as if to warn her to stay back or she'd be next. Her little chirp was quietly defiant, but she backed away just enough to give the old bronze room.
He stepped up onto the mound of now half-broken treats. Mulch's body had held the heat in nicely. Still, it felt a bit lumpy. The bronze turned a few times, stomping down any lumps that might prove uncomfortable. Ignoring the protests of the younger blue and green he curled himself up right in the middle. With one contented snort, Wort dozed off once more.
Fey was not going to just let Wort claim the best spot all for himself.
This was _her_ woman's kitchen after all! She grabbed at a cookie hanging off the edge and dragged it down to the table. Then another.
Wort opened an eye warningly, but as long as she didn't try to take _his_ cookies, she was welcome to them. When Mulch realized Fey was going to get away with it, he wisely followed suit. Soon, after stomping the cookies down to a proper pile of warm crumbs, all three flits had made for themselves a nice sweet-smelling nest of their own to enjoy...
