Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr, Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 13 of Turn 4

"S'kijen! Wait!" U'kaiah called as he sprinted down the corridor. "I heard you're going to Dolphin Cove today!"

"That's right. Gotta go check in with a bluerider I know," the greenrider grinned. "Why? Did you need me for something?"

"No no," the bronzerider quickly assured him. Then changed his mind.
"Well, yes. I want to get a letter to a friend at Dolphin Cove and I can't take it to her myself. Would you be willing?"

"And why can't you go? It's not another man's weyrmate is it?" the rider grinned, hoping for a piece of juicy gossip.

"No, just a friend. The Weyrwoman."

"Oooooooh," S'kijen cooed with a saucy smile. "You bronzeriders. When are you going to give up on golds? Greens have so much more to offer."

"Oh ho, I have had plenty of greens too," U'kaiah reminded him. "No, this is just a letter to a friend."

"All right," the greenrider sighed as he plucked the letter from the bronzerider's hands. "I'll deliver it for you. But only on condition that your Kalamath catches Yeslith next time she rises."

"Well, I can promise we'll try," the bronzerider chuckled. "Your Yeslith seems to have a taste for browns."

"I know," the greenrider sighed. "Its a nasty habit I just can't seem to break her of. Maybe yours will be the one to entice her? I'm sure once she's gone bronze she'll never go back."

"Dear Trae -

You asked me to write you again, so here I am. Actually, this is kind of fun! I was not much into letter writing before. Then again, I usually can just deliver any message I have in person. I know its for the best that I stay away. I certainly wouldn't want to cause trouble in your Weyr a second time. Being accused of trying to usurp power once was enough for me. I certainly wouldn't want to stir up questions about your motivation again. So I will wait patiently, like a good spoiled weyrbrat. And I will write you letters until Nyith rises. I don't suppose you can hurry that process along at all, can you?

Anyway, I've started working on my Senior Journeyman's knots again, did I tell you? I don't know why, but after Jaela died, I really didn't have much motivation for sifting through archives. Maybe it was the times we spent there together. Or maybe it was because I really didn't have much motivation for much of anything then. But listen to me drudging up the past. The point is, I'm moving on again. I've started a new project. Do you remember when we went out to Silver River Hold?
Well, I think I want to do more research into old abandoned Holds, starting with that one. I want to record the states they're in now, if anyone still lives in the area, why they die out, if any are inhabitable again. What an adventure that would be, eh! I don't suppose you'd be up for another expedition with me, would you? After Nyith rises of course.

I really don't think I'm very good at this letter writing thing. Some of the letters in the archives are so beautifully worded and story-like.
This one is just all over the place. I suppose it will never be archive worthy. But I just wanted to tell you about my new project.
I'll tell you even more when I see you again. I hope that will be soon.
I would have liked to have told you in person, but what can you do?
Take care, and if your duties are not too pressing, I'd like to hear about what you're doing.

Yours Always -

U'kaiah"

Grinning, Traelyn sat back down at her desk, picked up a spare hide and her pen and wrote:

"Dear U'kaiah, You caught me just as I was bolting from the office to give Nyith a good scrubbing and oiling. She can wait for a few, though. It'll teach her patience. Maybe. Sometimes, in situations like these, I hope that she will realize that the whole world doesn't revolve completely around her.
But who am I kidding, right? She knows my whole world and the Weyr revolves around her, and she takes advantage of that every chance she gets. I guess that's why her hide gleams gold and not green.

Your new project sounds exciting! And yes, I'd love to come with you on one of your expeditions. I had such a good time when I was with you at Silver River Hold. Remember pointing out the constellations on the ceiling? I'm planning on picking up an old text in the Records Room about stars and read it in my spare time. When I get spare time. Maybe next time I can pick out even more constellations than you! And don't raise your eyebrow at me. I can hope, can't I?

Ah, there's Nyith. She's demanding my presence now. I suppose I shouldn't keep her waiting much longer. Take care, U'kaiah. And by the way, your letter writing seems archive-worthy to me!

Miss you, Trae"
