Hesitating for a moment outside the curtain, N'vanik took a breath.
Before he could change his mind, he pulled the curtain aside and stepped in. "Well old man, I heard you exhausted yourself. One look and I can tell it's true." U'kaiah just stared at the bronzerider for a moment, his eyes narrowing in slight confusion. Could be hallucinating now? N'vanik, in the infirmary... apparently voluntarily? "If I remember correctly, you are a good few turns older than I, old man," he said lightly regaining his composure a bit.
"Well, that's what makes it funny." He smiled. "Yes, believe me, I've been laughing for days," U'kaiah was still not sure _why_ N'vanik was there. Certainly not for him. "If you're looking for Trae, I haven't seen her."
"I'm not looking for Trae . . . I came to see you." The smile faded for a moment, then returned. "I couldn't pass up a chance to rub it in. This is what you get for turning down my help."
U'kaiah sincerely hoped the man was joking. "I'll keep that in mind the next time."
"You better. We don't need a fainting Wingleader." N'vanik couldn't decide if he was angry at U'kaiah, or teasing or . . . worried? No, that couldn't be right.
"I'm sure it would make drills a bit more bareable without a wingleader," U'kaiah said with the hint of a smile.
"More bareable without _you_." He teased. "But we just lost our 'second, and now you're laid up. The wing needs stable leadership, and unfortunately that means you. So rest up, and don't do this again."
"Believe me, I intend not to," the wingleader said as he shifted the pillow behind him a bit. He was getting really sick of laying down all day. "But aren't you glad you didn't come? You'd probably be in the bed right next to me."
"I don't think so." N'vanik said with a cocky smile. "I'm made of stronger stuff. But even if I was laying there, at least I'd feel like I'd done something."
"Yeah, well, I did enough for the both of us. You'll just have to content yourself by the mere fact you know someone as great as me."
N'vanik laughed despite himself. "I'm going to remember that. I'll make sure to be extra annoying in drills once you get out of here."
"Is that possible?" U'kaiah asked, chuckling himself.
"You have no idea." "Well, ignorance is bliss," the wingleader said as he leaned back into the pillows. Shards it was getting hard to get just lay there!
"Well then you must be mighty blissful." N'vanik shifted his feet. "I guess I should go, let you rest up some more. Maybe next time I'll bring you flowers." He teased.
"Only if there is a woman attached to them," U'kaiah said as he leaned back and closed his eyes. Of all people to visit him... who would have thought?
